Alexander previews tonight's game at Glanford Park

Manager Graham Alexander anticipates a difficult test at League Two leaders Scunthorpe United on Monday night in front of the live Sky Sports cameras.

The Iron are unbeaten in their last 11 matches and hold a slender lead at the top of the division, although a win for Fleetwood would put the Cod Army in front of the pecking order.

However, after beginning his playing career with the Iron in the early 1990s, Alexander knows Scunthorpe boss Russ Wilcox will have his side prepared for Fleetwood’s visit.

“I know Russ from my playing days,” said Alexander. “He was the assistant manager then and he’s a fantastic man.

“His teams are very well-organised and Scunthorpe have got players who can score goals, so it will be a tough game but we’re hoping to give them a tough game as well.”

“They’re top of the league so it’s a good occasion for everyone, too. It’s a quick turnaround so the lads will have to recover really well, and we’ll look after them in between.”

Fleetwood are on their own impressive run since the start of the 2014, maintaining a 100 per cent record to January after four straight victories.

Reflecting on that run, Alexander said: “We’re delighted with our form of late and the players deserve that run because they’ve worked extremely hard.

“We now have to take what we’ve done in the last four games to Scunthorpe otherwise, if we drop off, then we’ll get found out and come away without a positive result.

“However, we’re going there to win the game of football against very good opponents.”
