Midfielder has returned to the team in recent weeks

Antoni Sarcevic is hoping that the Fleetwood Town supporters can lift the players on Saturday as they prepare for one of the biggest games of the season.

The midfielder has returned to the side in recent weeks having endured a difficult spell earlier in the season, and hopes he can now make a contribution on Town’s campaign.

Graham Alexander’s side enjoyed a break from playing last weekend due to FA Cup action, and focus is now entirely on the league.

Sarcevic admitted that games won’t come much bigger than Saturday’s for his teammates as they take on Nigel Clough’s Blades.

He said: “With the crowd behind us it lifts the players and that’s what we need. When our fans behind the goal are up and roaring it gets the boys going.

“Sheffield United could well be a Premier League team, so for Fleetwood Town to be hosting them at Highbury is something special.

“The teams in the play-offs are only five points ahead of us, so if we can get a little run going over the Christmas period then we’ll definitely be up there.”

A fortnight ago the Cod Army went down to a narrow defeat away at high-flyers Swindon Town, and Sarcevic felt Fleetwood deserved more.

“The gaffer told us after the Swindon game that we put everything into it, and personally I thought we had the better chances.

“If we’d tucked our chances away then the game was won but it’s those little margins. If we get ourselves on a little run, which I think we can, then we’ll definitely be up there.

“We’ve had a bit of a break recently with us being knocked out of the FA Cup, but we were straight back in this week ready for Saturday’s game and the lads are all up for it.”
