Boss' thoughts ahead of local derby at Spotland

Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander is under no illusions that Sunday’s short trip to Rochdale will be a tough game as the two clubs look set to renew their rivalry.

Dale, like Fleetwood, were promoted to the third tier of English football last season. It is just over 12 months ago since Town claimed victory at Spotland in League Two, with skipper Mark Roberts grabbing the decisive goal with a late second half header.

“We don’t want to dwell on the circumstances of Friday’s game versus Bradford,” said the manager in his pre-match press conference.

“We picked up a couple of knocks in the Bradford game. Danny Andrew left the field early so he will come under consideration and there are others that have picked up little knocks.

“We have to make sure whatever team we put out are ready and we will go into the game with a positive frame of mind.

“Rochdale are a good footballing side. We know that from last year, they won promotion alongside ourselves and they have equipped themselves well in League One.

“It will be a very tough match as the two games were last season.”
