Dominic Calvert-Lewis opened the scoring for the visiting Blades in the second round, however goals from Shane Glean, Louis Myers and Jordan Hancox wrapped up a historic win for Town.
It is another historic evening for Fleetwood Town Football Club, with the Cod Army having not competed at this level of the FA Youth Cup before. Victory will see Fleetwood face either Ipswich Town or Colchester United at Highbury Stadium in the fourth round.
Ticket information
The tie against the Black Cats will be played at Eppleton CW Stadium.
Admission for the tie will be £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, while tickets can be purchased at the stadium on the night.
Pre-match talk
Sunderland, who are managed by Robbie Stockdale, currently sit eighth in the Northern Group of the Premier League Youth Division.
Entering the competition at the third round stage, the Black Cats will be hoping to build upon last season’s exploits as they bowed out in the fourth round to rivals Newcastle United.
One's to watch
The Cod Army will have to be wary of starlet Daniel Wright, who has impressed at both club and international level in the past year or so.
Wright has featured at Under 16 and Under 17 level for the England team, and recently travelled to the United States to partake in the Nike International Tournament, netting his first goal for his country.
Sunderland will also look to their Republic of Ireland youth international goalkeeper James Talbot to see them through.
Dublin born Talbot is also the current holder of the FAI schoolboy of the year award, following some fine performances over the past year.
