Manager gave his reaction after the game
Manager Graham Alexander stated he was pleased with his side’s point at home to Sheffield United this afternoon. The Cod Army had gone behind to an early Bob Harris goal in the first half, but responded courtesy of Antoni Sarcevic’s first strike of the season.
Both teams had opportunities to win the game late on, however a point was a fair reflection on what was an entertaining game on the Fylde Coast.
Alexander said: “I was really pleased with the performance today. To go one nil down against a very good team and play the way we did was great.
“We had to go out in the second half and play on the front foot and I thought the players did that. They showed the energy and desire needed and we got the goal that we deserved.
“The lads are a little bit disappointed that they didn’t win the game but are happy with the way they played against a side like Sheffield United.
“It’s a point for us, but we next week we have to make sure we compete at the same level, if not better.
“Football is about eleven vs eleven and the players showed they’re confident in what they do. We’ve just got to have that consistency to take our chances when they come.”
Alexander was delighted for the players that came into the side today, and paid them special praise as they all contributed.
“I’m pleased for Danny because he’s had to contend with Crains playing in front of him, so he’s had to bide his time and train well. He was excellent today.
“Matty’s been out on loan at Chester and got a bit of confidence and showed what a good player he is. I thought he was a thorn in the Sheffield United side, as was Jamie Proctor.
“Sarc was superb and has added to his game with a great work ethic, and to be an all-round good midfield player that’s what you need.”
