Attacker on Fleetwood's win at Scunthorpe

Gareth Evans has expressed his delight with the team’s early season form as Fleetwood maintained their winning run in League One after beating Scunthorpe United 2-0 at Glanford Park.

The midfielder ensured the Cod Army’s third win from three matches so far this season adding to Jamie Proctor’s third goal for the club with a header with just ten minutes left to play.

Speaking after the win the 26-year-old said: “It’s a good feeling obviously, it’s another three points on the board and another fantastic performance from the lads and I get off the mark with a goal so it couldn’t be going any better at the minute really.”

“I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves in terms of promotion and stuff but to get the points on the board that we have so far and not to concede in open play is impressive so we just want to keep it going.”

Evans was clearly delighted to net his first goal of the season at Glanford Park and was also keen to mention the goalscoring accomplishments of striker Jamie Proctor: “It was nice to get off the mark. It always is, especially early on. It’s just a case now of racking up as many goals as we can now.

“We know Proc is going to score goals, that’s what the gaffer has brought him in for. He’s shown in training every day that’s what he is capable of doing.”

The ex-Rotherham man also admitted he is though he didn’t expect to be playing in an attacking midfield position prior to the start of the new season he is enjoying it: “I didn’t expect it until a week or two before the start of the season the gaffer played me there in a couple of games and I enjoyed it and felt like I played quite well, he’s stuck me there and stuck by me and long may it continue.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match with fellow promoted side Chesterfield at Highbury Evans is full of optimism saying: “There is no reason why we can’t go and get another three points on the board and stay right in the mix.

“We know what they’re about and they know what we’re about and we feel like we’ve got more than enough to beat them.”
