Cod Army celebrated Nathan Pond's testimonial year in style on Thursday evening

Nathan Pond’s testimonial year continued at the Parkside Suite on Thursday evening, as the Cod Army faithful celebrated the defender’s tenth year at Highbury.

The dinner, another event in Nathan’s calendar, was also attended by a number of current and ex-teammates of Pondy’s, with former Everton and Man City manager, Joe Royle, the guest speaker.

Pond, 28, was joined on top table by MC for the night, Martin Booker, club official Jim Betmead and comedian Mike Maguire.

Having enjoyed a testimonial game against Preston North End back in July, and also a Q&A session with supporters in January, Thursday night’s dinner was the third event out of four for Pond, with a legends game set to take place at Highbury in May.

Speaking to the club’s website after the event, Pond said: “It was a great event and I thank everybody who attended. We enjoyed a great meal and it was a terrific turn out on the night. It was a memorable night for me and I can’t wait to return to action on Saturday against Morecambe and cap off a great week.”

Manager Graham Alexander added: It was a great night, all the congratulation messages for Pondy were fantastic and he thoroughly deserves it. It has been a great year so far for and hopefully now he can finish the season strong.”

Chairman Andy Pilley was also quick to praise Pondy’s contribution to the Cod Army: “To see so many people turn up is a true reflection on how well Nathan is thought of throughout the club. He is a first class lad and he has represented Fleetwood Town for a number of years. He is great to have around the place. He is everything that you would want around a football club, he is a great example of how you should conduct yourself.”
