The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is The Football League’s knockout competition for clubs in League 1 and League 2. Established in 1983/84, it is now in its 31st season. It is split into Northern and Southern Sections with the winners meeting in the final at Wembley Stadium.
The Trophy gives clubs in the lower two divisions of domestic professional football a cup competition they can realistically win, in the process giving supporters the opportunity to see their club play in a Wembley Cup final.
A manufacturer of paint since 1890, Johnstone's is a leading paint brand and offers a complete range of professional finishes. Johnstone's currently have a nationwide network of over 185 Decorating Centre's and over 1,000 stockist customers.
The Johnstone's Paint Trophy sponsorship began in 2006 with a further three year extension announced in 2008.
In December 2011, Johnstone’s Paint renewed its sponsorship of the competition for a further three seasons (until end of Season 2014/15). The deal extends their association with The Football League to nine years – the longest sponsorship in the competition’s history.
