Two first half strikes lead to win

Double goal hero Antoni Sarcevic expressed his delight after scoring twice in the victory over Torquay United at the weekend.

The midfielder, who moved from Chester in the summer, bagged his first league goals for the club after netting in pre-season and says there is no better feeling.

He said: “I couldn’t have asked for better to be fair, I was out for a week with the injury and there is no better way to come back and I am just glad to get my first goals for the club. “There was nothing better, obviously they don’t count in pre-season so to get two today, I am over the moon with it.

“I love it (full time football). There is nothing better than training full time again. It is a great set of lads and a great club and I can’t wait to enjoy the season.”

Sarcevic said the team’s plan paid off against a struggling United side after a hard week in training.

“We go into every home game looking to win. We were confident today and that is what we will be looking to do next week and keep pushing up the table.

“We had a game plan like we always do, and to be fair, I thought the whole team started off well and we could have been more than 2-0 up at half time, but I am glad to get man of the match and happy that my performances are doing well for the team.”

And he claimed that the result was down to the character of the dressing room, after a difficult defeat last week to Wimbledon.

He said: “It was disappointing for the lads last week, but it just shows the character that we have got with the win in midweek at Tranmere and then here today and shows the character of the lads and it was a good result.”
