Midfielder signs new two-year deal

Gareth Evans has signed a new two-year contract which will keep him at Highbury Stadium until 2015.

The midfielder said he is pleased to continue playing League football with Fleetwood Town.

“I’m delighted to finally put pen to paper after what seems a long process. It’s really is worth the wait because I already know what Fleetwood Town is all about. I really wanted to stay here and I’m glad I have the next two years here working under the manager.”

The 25-year-old has seen a good measure of the club and the Cod Army since joining in January.

“I’ve tasted League 2 football with Fleetwood and it’s now time to make sure we go one better in terms of some of our results. The manager is going to put his own stamp on things and I’m pleased he has given me this opportunity.”

Evans appeared 16 times for Town last term and contributed one goal – the Highbury winner against Dagenham and Redbridge – and is ready to make his mark on pre-season.

“It’s not long before the first day of pre-season and I want to be as ready as I can be. I’ve been busy the last few weeks with running and other work. I’m looking forward to coming in and seeing the lads and meeting the new players. It’s a time to knuckle down and kick on for the season.”

The former Rotherham man will travel to Austria at the start of July for a pre-season training camp.

“A few of the lads have spoken about Austria and how good the place is to train. That will really be good in terms of team bonding particularly for the new lads. It’s always a good idea to have a break from the regular training ground and Austria will be a good place. Pre-season is really hard work but it is all worth it once the season starts.

“I’ve been impressed with some of the signing the gaffer has made,” added Evans. “I’m sure there will be one or two others yet. We’re looking strong as a squad and as a club and I expect us to be strong at the very end.”
