Pre-season in the Alps

Fleetwood Town will embark on their third pre-season training camp in Austria this July.

But before the Alpine date, Graham Alexander welcomes his squad back for pre-season duty on Monday 24th June with a practice game against Northwich Victoria on Thursday 4th July.

“We’re in for around 10 days before we go to Austria. Some real good work will be done before we fly out for a break of scenery,” said the Town boss.

The former full-back is no stranger to the National Sport and Recreation Centre in Obertraun having trained there as a player.

“I’ve been there myself with Preston some years ago and the training facilities at Obertraun are fantastic.”

“Pre-season it’s not the best of times as a player but the facility offer a great working environment and we are really looking forward to a productive time.”

Alexander currently has four summer signings to welcome aboard – Jeff Hughes, Liam Hogan, Steven Schumacher and Matty Blair.

“The new lads will have been with the squad for 7 to 10 days and will benefit from living together as a group. They will be with each other, supporting each other 24 hours a day and that’s when bonding

becomes evident through a strong team spirit.

“After our return we have some really good friendlies to look forward to and then we will be itching for the season to start.”

Former Bury skipper Schumacher echoed the words of his new manager about pre-season.

“No one really enjoys the pre-season but I’m looking forward to coming in and meeting the new lads. That’s always exciting and going away to somewhere like Austria really helps a lot. It’s a new, fresh

challenge for me.”

Two friendly games will take place during the visit to Austria. The first will be at the National Sport and Recreation Centre training camp in Obertraun on Tuesday 9th July. The opposition has yet to

beannounced and the centre is open to the public.

The second match is scheduled for Friday 12th July in the Salzburg area. Opposition and venue have yet to be confirmed. The match will be open to the public.

No doubt one or two Cod Army will be in attendance as the club have already received some enquiries. Full details of opposition, kick-off times and the venue in the Salzburg area will be released when

available.
