Switch for Friday's fixtures
Fleetwood Town will now take on German 3rd Division side, SV Wacker Burghausen this Friday, at the end of their week long pre-season training camp. Friday’s original scheduled fixture with Cypriot side APOEL, due to take place at the Obertraun training base, was yesterday cancelled by the opposition.
The game will take place at Burghausen’s 10,000 capacity ‘Wacker Arena’ at 6pm (5pm UK Time) in the Bavarian City, which is just over the Austrian Border.
Last season saw them finish 8th in Germany’s national 3rd tier. The highest level at which they have competed was in the ‘Bundesliga 2’, between 2002-2007, after which they were relegated to the then regionalised ‘Regional League South’. In 2009 Germany’s third tier became a nationwide league and Wacker we’re placed in this league having finished in the top half of the Regional League South in the 2008/2009 season.
They promise to be strong opposition playing at the equivalent of League 1 back in England, and should be a sterner test that Tuesday’s Austrian opponents.
