Fleetwood Town midfielder Jeff Hughes has said this pre-season training is the most challenging of his career so far. Hughes, 28, explained: "It is one of the hardest pre-seasons I've ever done. I have done a few now and I would say this is definitely the toughest."

The Irishman has however insisted the squad is working very well together. "We've been breaking it down into smaller groups, getting the footballs out and have been playing a couple of games amongst ourselves now and it is starting to take shape."

Despite being very early on in the season, Hughes is confident in manager Graham Alexander to lead the team to success. "It is very early days but he is very organised with everything he does, especially with the team shape and the fitness levels. Hopefully this will stand us in good stead for the start of the season."

The Cod Army play Northwich Victoria tonight and this is opportunity which Jeff feels the team will use to further gel together. The former Notts County man said: "We will use the game to find out how each other play, get to know each other and if we get the win it will wrap up a successful night."
