Central defender praised by keeper

18 July 2013

Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Scott Davies has expressed his delight ahead of Saturday's game against Preston North End. Davies, 26, has said he is pleased Nathan Pond will receive a testimonial this weekend. “I've become really good friends with Pondy over the last few years. He is a great lad and nobody works harder than he does. He deserves the occasion and also all the accolades he is going to receive.”

Davies has also stated he believes Nathan Pond is definitely worthy of a regular first-team place in the side this season. “He is a very dominant centre back. He has great aerial ability and he also has that 'no nonsense' attitude which is essential to be a good centre half. When I joined in 2010, he played as a central midfielder with a similar sort of role and all the lads called him the Wrecking Ball.”

Speaking at Highbury as the official team photographs were being taken, the Fleetwood Town number one says he feels like a 'big kid at Christmas'. “You really get a feel for the start of the new season when photo day comes around. It is great to wear the new kit and even though I feel like a big kid at Christmas, we still need to focus and work hard through pre-season and be raring to go on the 3rd of August.”
