Striker is aiming to score 15 goals this season David Ball could not hide his excitement over the prospect of a new season at Highbury. Ball was in a reflective and optimistic mood, the striker said, “this is my second season with Fleetwood and it’s obviously an exciting time because it’s the start of the season and we have a group of new lads in, which is a big change from last year. I’m looking forward to this season a lot and the pitch is beautiful this year. I was talking to the lads about it (the pitch) and we all said we should be able to pass the ball better which will make us a more fluid team.”

There was cause for concern in a pre-season fixture for Ball after he looked in discomfort following a rash tackle. However, the injury is not as bad as first feared, “I’m okay; I thought I was going to be out for longer but I was only out for 6 days. I did a lot of stuff like mountain biking in Austria and managed to train Thursday. Now, I feel really good and raring to go.”

When asked if he received any stick from his fellow team-mates for using the mountain bike, Ball giggled and said “yes, especially when they went on the 7am runs because it wasn’t as tough for me then as it was for them.”

Despite failing to net regularly last season, Ball made numerous assists and there was no denying the work-rate of Ball who tried his utmost every time he wore the Fleetwood shirt. The striker did however say, he wanted to change this record and score more this season. “As a striker I obviously want to score goals and even though I like creating goals, I want to be scoring. I want to be doubling the figures I got from last year. My target is to get over 15 goals. I’ve worked over the pre-season and I’m going to continue to work hard. I feel stronger and sharper.”

After setting his own personal targets, Ball then went on to state what his targets are with Fleetwood this upcoming season. “We finished mid-table last season and we went off the boil at the wrong time of season. We suffered from that but now we have a lot of experience coming in with the new set of lads we have brought in. We’re going to give it a right good go.”
