Anthony Barry says it was a great day to finally be back in the first team fold after being out injured for 16 months.

The midfielder suffered a serious knee injury in August 2011 in only the second game of the new Football Conference season. The 26-year-old midfielder took his place amongst the substitutes bench, but was unused in Fleetwood Towns 2-0 win away at Port Vale. Anthony Barry said: “It was a good day for the club; we needed the win to get us right back in the mix and we got it, and it was a good win against Port Vale, and personally it was a great day, one that I remember and I am just happy to be back involved. “It was great to be back, I enjoyed it. I was a little bit nervous but I have still got a long way to go even though I was on the bench. I have a long way to go to get back to where I was, as I said I haven’t played a reserve game yet.” Barry has admitted that he was took by surprise when he was named in the 18-man squad to travel down to Vale Park, so much so, that he had to go out and buy some new shin pads. “When I got the call to say I was in the squad it was quite a surprise because I haven’t played a reserve game yet, so it was quite a surprise to be involved. I found out when I got home that I haven’t got any shin pads, I have been out that long, that I didn’t even own a pair. So I had to go and get some Monday afternoon.” Barry is now looking to step up his recovery, as he looks to get himself into good shape and cement his place in the Fleetwood first team. “I have some routines to help my knee improve and help my leg get going. The routines are nothing too serious. It’s just to make sure I stay on top of it to make sure I am in the best condition possible when I eventually do get on to the pitch. “I need to build my fitness up more during this month and the start of February you will see the old Anthony Barry back hopefully.”
