Fleetwood Town kick off their 2013-14 campaign on Saturday against Dagenham and Redbridge at Highbury and winger Gareth Evans is delighted that competitive football is back.

‘It’s a good feeling getting pre-season out of the way. I’m feeling good and the lads are looking sharp, we can’t wait for the game to get underway on Saturday’

Only the clubs second season in League 2 and they start it off at home like last season where they faced Torquay.

‘Getting the first game of the season at your own ground is a superb morale boost. Hopefully it will give us a good starting point to kick on. The preparation has gone well so we should make use of this fixture and pick up all 3 points.’

The last competitive win for The Cod Army came last March against Dagenham and Redbridge where Evan’s wonder goal in the second half sealed the victory.

‘March was a long time ago to pick up a last competitive win and we’ll have to put an end to that this Saturday. I want to add to my Fleetwood tally because I believe I have plenty of goals in my game which will help benefit the team throughout season two in the Football League.’

‘I always work hard to get into the right positions in the final third which is where the majority of goals come from. The opportunities will come and I’m sure I will take them, increasing my tally from the previous year.’

Evan’s signed from Rotherham in January and has proved to be an excellent addition to the squad becoming one of the first names on the team sheet which earned him a new 2 year deal with Fleetwood following a short-term one after his release from The Millers.
