Defender optimistic about season ahead

The Cod Army have begun the domestic season in terrific fashion with two consecutive wins and Ryan Creswell emphasised how important it is to keep the momentum going. Town will now face a tough test as they host Burton Albion who emphatically beat Fleetwood 4-0 at Highbury last season.

Defender Ryan Cresswell was pleased to have kept a clean sheet for Town in their win over Plymouth on Saturday as he reflected on a positive start to the season for Fleetwood Town. “It was a well-fought result. I think we deserved the clean sheet and as a team we worked well. The confidence is flowing throughout the lads which is there for everyone to see. We’re all enjoying coming to training and it’s important to keep this momentum going. We’re all just getting to know each other day by day and we can only get stronger which is a good thing.”

Former Stoke City player Rory Delap, who is known for expert long throw-in’s, will travel with the Burton Albion squad to Highbury and Creswell was keen to underline how important it is to combat Delap’s threat as well as the threat the whole team will carry. “We’ve talked about it (Delap’s throw-in’s) and what we need to do to nullify it. It’s a dangerous thing and they will use it. They (Burton) are organised. Their gaffer has them well drilled and they’re a fit side as well.”

But of course, Town will pose their own threat as Cresswell elaborates, “They might be thinking, Fleetwood away? We don’t fancy it, and I just hope we give them a good game on Saturday.” Cresswell quickly discussed his delight at being involved in the set-up at Fleetwood Town. “The club are going in the right direction and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile, Town have been drawn away in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the tie will be played during week commencing 2nd September.
