Graham Alexander is hoping for a response from his players following a “disappointing” performance against Rochdale on Saturday.

The Cod Army suffered a heavy 3-0 home defeat which significantly restricted their play-off hopes. Alexander, ordered his players to regroup and watch the Rochdale performance together on Sunday, to see where they can improve. “We were in on Sunday to watch the whole game, so they could see what everyone else saw. To their credit, the lads opened up and said they let themselves, the fans and everyone connected with the club down. The aim is to put everything right. We’ve been working hard since Monday morning and we’re going to be prepared for Saturday. We’ve had a hard training session but it was all football and we’re going to be working hard until the end of the season.” There was an internal practice game today and Alexander took time to look at 2nd year apprentices who are pushing for a future with Fleetwood Town. The players who have struggled to gain a regular spot were also given playing time. “We’ve got a game against the second year apprentices and pro’s that have not gotten a lot of playing time this season. It is a proper full scale game. It is important we give them lads the opportunity to play football instead of training all the time. We have to see what the second year apprentices can offer us. I’m expecting a fully competitive game.” Looking ahead, Fleetwood Town take on Rotherham on Saturday and the manager was quick to reiterate the importance of the game. “It is a big game for us. We have a lot of questions to answer that have been asked of us. Rotherham are in the play-off spots, which we have been striving for. I would expect there will be a really good atmosphere in their brand new ground. I do say it week in and week out, but this more than any other week – I am waiting to see a response from my team. They (the team) owe themselves, as well as everyone connected with the club, a performance full of character of energy.”
