Liverpool legend John Aldridge enjoyed a long and distinguished playing career before taking over the hot seat at Tranmere Rovers.
“I always remember seeing him on telly. I was a bit young to see him in his prime but he certainly is an legend absolute legend” said Mangan. “I listen to him on Radio City (in Liverpool) all the time. He’s a top man and it will be thoroughly enjoyable when he comes to the Parkside.”
Aldridge is famed for his footballing anecdotes and last term’s 22 goal striker says the stories continue to entertain.
“When you hear him on the radio he has so many good stories and the amount of knowledge he has amassed about the game is amazing. He still in touch with the Liverpool squad now and I’m sure he has some great stories to tell next week.”
Aldridge took over at Prenton Park in April 1996 and led his side to the Worthington Cup Final in 2000.
“He started as player-manager and I’ve been told lots of good things about him. He was a natural goalscorer and, as a striker myself, he’s someone to base your game on. The amount of goals he scored (442), particularly at Liverpool, was just amazing.
“It will be a massive night for the club and I will certainly be coming along to the Parkside with a few of the lads.”
Mangan has scored twice so far this season and will be looking for some shooting tips off the maestro.
“He might not speak to me on the night. He won’t know who I am,” joked Mangan. “But I’d love to ask him how he put himself into some of those scoring positions. Anything that will help me to another 20-odd goal season would be more than welcome!”
Tickets are £40 or £350 for a table of 10. The cost includes a superb meal by Twelve Restaurant and comedian Gary Skyner.
