Tom Barkhuizen celebrated his 5th appearance for Fleetwood Town by scoring the winning goal against Barnet last weekend.

The on loan striker, 19, headed home with less than 10 minutes remaining to claim Town’s 5th win of the season. “We claimed three massive points against Barnet and that’s set us up for Tuesday’s trip to York,” said Barkhuizen whose header was his first for Fleetwood. “It’s my first headed goal in about 8 years and it was thanks to a great delivery from Millie (Jamie Milligan). I had a similar chance a few minutes before but I made no mistake the second time.  It was the slowest ball I’ve ever seen go over the line but I’ll take goals like that any day of the week. “ Fellow frontman David Ball also recorded his first goal for Fleetwood – a penalty after 22 minutes. “It was great for Bally putting the penalty home and hopefully the two of us can kick-on now.  We partnered each other in the reserves at Stoke City a few weeks ago and played well together. We picked-up that understanding against Barnet. He has great movement and made my job easier.” Barkhuizen completed only his second 90 minutes and was substituted by Micky Mellon in added time and the youngster left the field to warm applause. “I really happy with my game and hope I can cement a place now. The goal came late on and we’re all pleased with the 3 points.” Barkhuizen has the opportunity to claim a place in the starting line-up on Tuesday when Town travel to York City.  His performance earned a place in the Football League Team of the Week. Andy Mangan looks set to miss the trip with the knee injury which kept him side-lined against Barnet.  Meanwhile, Ashley Eastham has returned to Bloomfield Road following his loan spell which included 2 appearances.
