Fleetwood Town goalkeeper, Scott Davies, cut short his week at pre-season in Austria and began a dramatic dash to be present at the birth of his first child, Sonny Alan:
‘The plan was to come home with the rest of the lads on the Sunday but I got a call from Claire on Saturday to say that she was being induced! I was in the middle of a gym session at the time! Following hurried investigations, I found that the only flight back to England was to Heathrow and Andy Hodgen, our fitness coach, set off on a four-hour drive to get me to the airport in Austria!’‘The plane was due to leave at nine ‘o’ clock on the Saturday night and we arrived at the airport with five minutes to spare! Fortunately, there had been a half-hour delay, which was good news, but we then found that the checking-in desk was closed! Having explained my situation I was allowed to board. My mate, Matty Blinkhorn, had driven down to Heathrow and got me back to Claire around three ‘o’ clock on Sunday morning. Things were in their early stages and, in fact, it wasn’t until about 12:15 on Sunday afternoon that Sonny Alan appeared, weighing in at 7lbs 2 ounces!’‘It was a crazy 24 hours but the fact that I am now a dad makes it all worthwhile. I am an unbelievably happy man and so proud of my amazing fiancé, Claire!’There’ll be no safer pair of hands for little Sonny to be held in!
