Former Scotland international, Barry Nicholson was one of six new faces who made their debut in a Fleetwood Town shirt in the friendly against Gateshead on Wednesday:

‘It was a good start for us all after the training we’ve done and the manager seemed pleased that we all got time under our belts.  I’m delighted to be here and looking forward to playing for Fleetwood.’ ‘The boys have done exceptionally well to make the Football League last year and the lads who have joined, myself included, want to continue the progress and take the club on further.’ ‘I got the call late on Saturday to join the lads in Austria.  As soon as I got to the airport, I was met by my old mate, Jon Parkin, and he took it from there.  I roomed with him and it was good to catch up after our time at Preston.  Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming.  It seems a really good group to be part of and it will be a cracking dressing room.’ After some years spent north of the border, Nicholson made 93 appearances at Deepdale between 2008 and 2012, much of the time alongside Parkin: ‘He’s a very under-rated player and will do well for the club, I’m sure.’ ‘I’ve never been part of a promotion push in my career so would love to do that with Fleetwood.  I was taken by the ambition here and was keen to come.  Along with some of the other new signings I feel that my experience can be added to an already good squad.  The first few training sessions and today’s match made me aware that we can have a very good season.  There are players here who could be playing even higher.’
