Fleetwood Town striker Steven Gillespie, is currently enjoying his first training sessions with the club, following his move from Colchester United this summer.

The striker is settling into life at Highbury, as they prepare for the new season training in Austria. “It seems like a really nice place. It was our first session today, which has involved plenty of hard work, as it tends to be at this time of year.” Gillespie and his team mates are well aware how crucial an extensive pre-season campaign can be, for fitness before the season begins. “It’s enjoy able in a strange way, because you’re working hard, but working for a purpose. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to use some balls in training so far, as that’s the more enjoyable aspect of the training.” It has been the first time the striker has met some of his new team mates, who have been doing all they can to ensure he fits in. “There’s nothing better than getting away early on. Luckily there are some fellow scouse lads in there, and I’ve been able to get into a car school early on with them! It’s good for me to get to know the whole squad at meal times and stuff like that.” Fleetwood’s first competitive fixture this season will be a Capital One Cup tie with former European champions Nottingham Forest in August. “That’s what all the preparation is for really. When training is really difficult and you have to dig deep, the new season is what is at the back of your mind. That’s what you’re working for, as you hope you can be fitter than the opposition for the first game. Having that extra bit of fitness could prove crucial in the last ten minutes of a game, and allow you to grind out a positive result. Fortunately we’re all working hard, and hopefully it will pay dividends.” Town’s first competitive game as a Football League side is the Capital One Cup (League Cup) tie at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday 13th August. The first npower League 2 game is at home to Torquay United on Saturday 18th August. Tickets for both games, and the first six home games, are now on sale. See here for details of ticket prices.
