It was a perfect afternoon for football as Blackburn Rovers went head to head with AEK Athens.

It took only 7 minutes for the first goal which went Blackburn’s way. A headed attempt on goal from Leon Best found its way into the feet of Gomes who bundled the ball in for 1-0. Just 20 minutes later Best found time on the ball wide right and managed to cut in onto his left foot before curling the ball into the top corner to top off a strong first half from Rovers. Several changes were made at half time from Blackburn and the team had a new dimension to their play. The Greeks pulled a goal back on the 76th minute through Nikolaos Kourelas who calmly placed the ball under the diving Jake Kean for 2-1 but it was too late to complete the comeback. A total of 994 fans, including a vocal Greek-supporting element,  viewed the football at Highbury in glorious weather conditions. The next match at Highbury is this Saturday when Tranmere Rovers are the visitors.
