Fleetwood Town have added a seventh new signing for their debut Football League campaign.

Fleetwood Town have added a seventh new signing for their debut Football League campaign following his release by Preston North End.

Micky Mellon has recruited former North End and Scotland international Barry Nicholson to the ranks of the Cod Army. Nicholson, 33, arrived at Deepdale in June, 2008 and made over 30 appearances, with two goals, last season.  The Scot joined Preston from Aberdeen and won three full caps between 2001 and 2004. Mellon said “I’m absolutely delighted to bring in someone with the experience of Barry Nicholson. He provides options different to those we already have in the squad and that will be important in our first Football League campaign. You can never have enough good players and I’m delighted to have him on board.” Nicholson travelledwith the Town players to Obertraun for the pre-season training camp.  Mellon added: “Barry is one of the fittest players we have in Austria as is Damien Johnson. It goes to show that if players look after themselves they can still play into their 30’s and provide that quality which is all important.” The midfielder was given permission to travel by Preston, in order to finalise a deal.
