England Under 18 Schoolboys have selected Fleetwood Youths midfielder Michael Smith for their 2012/2013 squad.
By Sam GillilandEnglish Schools' FA have selected Fleetwood Town youth midfielder Michael Smith for their 2012/2013 squad.
The Blackpool 6th Form College student earned his call-up after competing in trials at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December.
Two trial squads played matches against the Navy and the RAF on the Saturday, before playing against each other on the Sunday morning.
Michael, who was delighted to be selected, said: “I felt I had two good games in the trials so I was happy with myself.”
“I was playing just off the striker, which is quite an intelligent role to play, and after the coach said he was picking three players, I felt like I was in the top three.”
“Academy Manager Steve Carlin has probably been the most important person to me in terms of my development as a player, along with the coaches and my teammates at Fleetwood, who I train with every day.”
Looking forward to the task ahead, Michael added: “It’s going to be difficult. We’ve got games against Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, who will have good players, so it will be tough.”
