One of the plusses to come from Tuesday’s drawn friendly at Chester was the chance for young striker, Alex Titchiner, to play ninety minutes in a Town shirt and he marked the evening with his first goal to keep his name in manager Micky Mellon’s thoughts as the season draws near.

‘It’s always nice to win a game but at this stage in pre-season match time is all-important.  The late goal was a disappointing one to concede but it’s very much about improving the fitness.  Naturally, I would have liked a little bit more time in games but everyone has to get their fitness levels up and the manager has to make sure that happens.  I got my chance tonight and was glad with the goal.  I was happy with that!  I’m here to score goals.’ ‘Richie (Allen) did well with the cross.  It was a striker’s ball and he knows exactly where the man in the box wants the ball placed.  That’s where he put it.’ The 21-year old is well-aware of the competition for places up-front: ‘The manager has brought proven players at higher levels but I’m younger and here to learn from them.  If I get a chance through injuries hopefully I can do the business.’ The visit to the Exacta Stadium marked a happy return to Cheshire for the prolific former Witton Albion striker.  His 39 goals in 54 league and cup starts last season helped Albion secure promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League: ‘It’s always nice to come back to former clubs and see familiar faces.  I was at Chester for a month or so and played in some cup games as well as my time at Crewe and Witton.  It would have been nice to have had a pre-season game against Witton but it wasn’t to be and I’m totally committed to what I’m doing at Fleetwood now.’
