Andy Mangan looked ahead to the Capital One Cup game with Nottingham Forest, relishing the prospect of playing against top side.
He believes Town have every chance of going through if they play the way they have done so far and he also talked about progressing in the competition.
He said: “We played well against opposition from two leagues above last season in The FA Cup and it’s the same again. But make no mistake, they are a massive outfit, they are a top team and Sean O’Driscoll is a top manager. I know for a fact he will have them playing lovely football- the type of football that we like to play as well. So it’s two good teams going up against each other, so let the best team win.”
He continued: “It’s great for the fans to see such a game so early in the season. If we can progress, which is obviously a massive ask, but if we can manage to get as far as we can in the cup, then it’d be nice for the fans.”
Mangan claims that the team spirit at Fleetwood is second-to-none and that it will carry them this season as they look to repeat the feat from last term.
“The mood is great. It’s a big thing that we’ve got here at Fleetwood and that’s team spirit. I believe team spirit will carry you and probably get you 20 points a season. We’ve got great team spirit and the new lads have come in and bedded well, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens this season.
“There are a lot of new faces and I’m quite sure with the hard work we’ve been doing, there’s no reason why we can’t do just as well again.”
As the first competitive game of the season, the eagerly anticipated encounter promises to bring excitement and plenty of action, and what better way to prepare for the first season in the Football League than host the former double European Champions to Highbury Stadium.
