By David MitchellWhen Fleetwood Town walk down the players’ tunnel and out into the Football League on Saturday, it will be a moment to savour for long-serving full back, Shaun Beeley.
After 176 league and cup games in Town colours, the 23 year-old finally achieves his ambition to play in the Football League:
‘It’s going to be a massive occasion for the club and the fans. Hopefully, we can kick the season off with a win against Torquay United and we’ll take a lot from our performance against Nottingham Forest. We kept the ball well and gave them a run for their money. We’ve also raised our game against other Football League sides in cup matches and I really enjoy those occasions.’
Beeley has gone from strength to strength since joining the club in 2007, experiencing three promotions:
‘I had to prove myself initially when the gaffer came but I’m really pleased with the way things have gone. I take nothing for granted, though, and will need to impress in the early games to keep my position. I love to move forward and play a part in the final third. Hopefully, I can get a shot or two on goal this season and add to my tally. The one I had blocked in the first half against Forest was heading for the top corner!’
‘There have been many changes since I first came to the club but a lot of the guys we’ve brought in this season are experienced quality league players with and we can learn a lot from them. I really think we can be up there come the end of the season.’
