Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s came back from behind to beat Salford City 2-1 at Partington Sports Complex as they notched another Youth Alliance victory on Saturday.

It was a dream start for the Ammies as they managed to take the lead in the game just seven minutes into the clash as their number seven played a free kick towards the back post, which ended up falling to one of their defenders, who swung a boot at it and found the back of the net early on.

Town then found their feet and pushed the hosts back as they looked for an equaliser with two key chances being created before the break. First off was Dom Richmond, who was picked out by Zane Marsh, as he drove at the Salford defence before firing the ball against the post 23 minutes in.

The next chance came just before the break as Josh Kearns lofted the ball over the back line, finding Marsh inside the area, who cut inside and forced a diving save from the goalkeeper.

The pressure paid off as two quickfire goals flipped the game on its head ten minutes into the second half as good work from George Morrison meant Richmond was through on goal, slotting the ball under the keeper before Billy Jones played a dangerous cross in from the right two minutes later, which was fumbled into the net making it 2-1 on the day.

Salford’s youngsters then pressed until the final whistle to try and salvage a point from the game and goalkeeper Stephen McMullan had to keep his wits about him at the end as he had to pull off a brilliant save to deny their number 11 meaning Matt Lawlor’s side would take home all three points on the day.

Town XI: McMullan (GK), Jones, Arthur, W.Johnson (C), Khela, Hand, Kearns (Smith 75’), Morrison, Marsh, King, Richmond.
