FLEETWOOD TOWN

The Cods head into this fixture on the back of a 5-2 victory in the Lancashire Derby. Hat-trick hero Jack Marriott got the ball rolling on Saturday with a half-volley strike finding the back of the net in the 9th minute. Marriott scored his second later in the first half with a well worked finish to send the visitors into the break two goals to the good.

Promise Omochere returned to the starting XI at the weekend and capitalised on Marriott's shot hitting the post, before Jayden Stockley squared the ball to the Irishman who slotted his 6th goal of the season in all competitions. Phoenix Patterson scored his first goal since joining the club in January, and Marriott sealed his hat-trick in injury time after Patterson played the forward through on goal to make it 5-2 to Scott Brown sides.

Town sit 8th in the Sky Bet League One away form table, picking up 7 wins, 7 draws and losing 7 matches. Brown's side have picked up 28 points on the road, with Forest Green Rovers having the worst home record, only seeing five victories on home soil, with 15 defeats - can Fleetwood make it 8 wins away from home this season?

There are no new injury concerns for Fleetwood Town. Harvey Macadam remains out, as well as Danny Andrew and Harrison Holgate. Will it be the same XI from Accrington that starts on Tuesday night?

FOREST GREEN ROVERS

Forest Green Rovers currently find themselves 24th in Sky Bet League One table, and were confirmed as relegated on Saturday evening after their 5-1 home defeat to high-flying Barnsley. Goals from Tedic, Phillips, Norwood and Cole secured the win, with Reece Brown scoring a late consolation goal for the hosts.

With one win in 21 league matches, Duncan Ferguson's side will be looking to finish off the campaign with their heads held high and a win over Fleetwood would take the pain off relegation in some ways.

Their last win on home soil was a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday. Jordan Garrick scored in the the 35th minute, and to the frustration of Wednesday, they couldn't find a way back into the match.

LAST MEETING IN THE LEAGUE

Fixture: Fleetwood Town 1-1 Forest Green Rovers

Competition: Sky Bet League One

Date: Tuesday 25 October 2022

Venue: Highbury Stadium

PRE-MATCH QUOTES: STEVEN WHITTAKER

On the quality performances all over the park against Accrington Stanley...

“The performance overall was very good; we looked a threat all day on the counter, we were sharp, and picked up plenty of second balls. One thing is we lacked a bit of composure in the final third as we could have scored a few more – on another day we could have made a few more chances.

“We were on the boys a bit as in the last few games, we haven’t started great, so it was important we started that way this time out. In the first half, we were on the front foot and played well and scored the goals we needed in that half.

“Both Jack [Marriott] and Jayden [Stockley] have played well together; Jack plays off the shoulder and Jayden is a great target for us as he allows us to get up the pitch quicker. They bounce off each other and both have chipped in with crucial goals already.”

Match Reports

Report: Town share the points in league clash against Forest Green

18 April 2023

Fleetwood Town played out a goalless draw in Gloucestershire on a clear Tuesday night at The New Lawn against Forest Green Rovers.

It was a mainly one-sided game, with the side in red seeing most of the action throughout the game. Jack Marriott – who netted a hat-trick in the game before against Accrington Stanley – and Promise Omochere both struck the woodwork in the first half, but both were deemed offside when shooting.

Town were on top in the opening 10 minutes as Jack Marriott had two big chances early on. It was the link-up play between him and Carl Johnston that made these chances happen, with the first hitting the post from an offside position, and the second going just wide of the far post.

The chances kept flowing for Fleetwood as Marriott saw a shot deflect behind for a corner from inside the area. From the set piece, the ball found its way to Scott Robertson, who laid the ball off for Promise Omochere to try a spectacular overhead kick, which smashed against the crossbar.

It was a quiet half for Jay Lynch and his back line as most of the play was in the home half. Phoenix Patterson had a first-time effort, assisted by Jayden Stockley, go just wide before the winger turned from the shooter in the assistor as he found Omochere in the box, but his header was saved well.

There was only one side in the first half; it wasn’t until the 40th minute that Forest Green had their first chance of the game as a low cross from the left isn’t dealt with, the home side then passed the ball out to Harvey Bunker who struck well over the bar from range – it ended goalless at the half.

The action in the second half took a while to come as spectators would have to wait until the hour mark when Brandon Omotoye nodded over from close range. Soon after, substitute Junior Quitirna had a chance of his own as his header needed to be saved by Ross Doohan.

Not much attacking play followed the chances on the hour, one of the only efforts of note was in the 68th minute when Town worked the ball across the 18-yard line, from right to left, with Johnston seeing an opportunity to try and lob the keeper from range, but his effort landed on the roof of the net.

A quick double effort from the Cods in the last 10 minutes could have made all the difference in this fixture, but it wasn’t meant to be as Doohan dived low to stop Shaun Rooney’s curled effort from 20-yards before Patterson struck just wide of the far post.

As the game rounded out, and both sides left The New Lawn with a point, Scott Brown and his staff will now turn their focuses to Saturday’s fixture against Milton Keynes Dons at home as they’ll look to carry on their recent unbeaten form.

Forest Green XI: Doohan (GK), McGeouch (C), Casey, Garrick, Robson, Godwin-Malife (Bernard 86’), Cooper, Peart-Harris, Bunker, Omotoye (Bakayoko 63’), Savage (O’Brien 86’).

Unused subs: Burnett (GK), O’Keeffe, Moore-Taylor, R.Brown.

Town XI: Lynch (GK), Wiredu, Vela (C), Stockley, Robertson (Warrington 70’), Marriott, Omochere (Quitirna 57’), Patterson, Rooney, Johnston, Earl.

Unused subs: McMullan (GK), Nsiala, Batty, White, P.Brown.
