FLEETWOOD TOWN

Simon Grayson’s side are currently on a five-match unbeaten streak in all competitions after coming back to draw 2-2 against then top-of-the-table Sunderland at Highbury and will be looking to make it six when they face Cambridge.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half after Ross Stewart converted a cross from the right with his head, with the side doubling their lead from the spot through captain Aidan McGeady. Callum Morton pulled one back late on to start a counter-charge which paid off right at the death as Ged Garner converted a last-minute spot-kick to rescue a point.

In the game before, they managed to beat Rotherham United 4-2 away from home. Town opened the scoring in the game through a Callum Morton strike in the first half and, even though the hosts gained the lead after goals from Michael Smith and Kieran Sadlier, Fleetwood managed to convert three more chances in the second half through Ged Garner, Danny Andrew, and Callum Camps.

CAMBRIDGE UNITED

The U’s have had some big results already this season as they have managed to beat Burton Albion 3-0 at home, Oxford United 4-1 at home in the Papa John’s Trophy, and recently, a 2-1 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Cambridge started the game as they meant to go on as they went on the attack early on in their Pompey clash and managed to take the lead just before the half-time break through Joe Ironside, with Liam O’Neill adding a second goal 20 minutes from the end. Ronan Curtis pulled one back for the home side, but it wasn’t enough to forge a comeback.

Since then, they have played one more game, which ended up being a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at home in the Papa John’s Trophy. The game was a stalemate until the 72^nd minute when Sam Smith found the back of the net to secure the win for his side.

“We know it’s going to be a really tough test for us, they have some good players who play a good game and are a handful, but they do have a togetherness and a spirit because you don’t get promoted without those final qualities.”

Report: Lane wondergoal rescues point for Town in Cambridge draw

Fleetwood Town came back to secure a point at the Abbey Stadium in their 2-2 draw against Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon.

Town broke the deadlock the scoring with the first chance of the game through a James Hill header, with substitute Paddy Lane adding a second late on the level the game out after goals from Adam May and Shilow Tracey.

The opening chance of the game saw Town take an early lead when Danny Andrew’s corner was met by Hill who headed home from close range - scoring his first goal for the Cod Army inside the opening three minutes.

James Brophy responded for Cambridge with an optimistic effort from range. His long-distance strike flew high over the crossbar.

United came close to levelling the score when Paul Digby’s tried his luck from the edge of the area. His audacious chip surprised the backpedaling Alex Cairns, but it was too high to trouble the Fleetwood stopper.

After a promising piece of build-up play, Town almost managed a chance to double their lead when Ryan Edmondson picked up the ball on the left flank. After driving into the box, his ball across the six-yard box looked to have troubled the Cambridge defence, but goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov was in the way to intercept.

At the other end, the hosts counter-attacked and in the 34th minute levelled the score. Adam May’s ambitious low strike across goal from 25 yards flew into the bottom corner of the net.

Jack Iredale looked to give his side the lead before the break when his free-kick from the edge of the area was superbly saved by the outstretched arm of Cairns who pushed the ball behind. The resulting corner saw the goalkeeper called into action once again when a deep cross was clawed away from danger.

Five minutes into the second half, the hosts took the lead. After a daring run down the left-hand side, Iredale low ball into the box found Shilow Tracey who side-footed the ball into the back of the net from just six yards out.

Fleetwood had the chance to level the score when the ball fell to Ged Garner inside the penalty area. After letting the ball bounce, the forward scuffs his effort under pressure from the onrushing Cambridge defence.

Tracey looked to double his tally when he was found by Liam O’Neil on the edge of the area. However, his strike didn’t trouble Cairns who caught the ball comfortably.

With 15 minutes to go, the Cod Army found a way back into the game. After receiving the ball from Callum Camps, Paddy Lane picked up the ball on the right, cutting in onto his left foot and curling into the top left corner to level the score.

Both sides had half-chance before the end, but it ended all level at the Abbey Stadium.

NHS staff offered free tickets for Cambridge trip

Tickets and coach travel are now on sale for Fleetwood Town’s Sky Bet League One away trip to face Cambridge United - with NHS staff going free.

The Cods are set to travel to Abbey Stadium after making it five games unbeaten on as they came back to draw with top-of-the-table Sunderland in Sky Bet League One. The support has been brilliant so far this season so let’s keep it going on Saturday!

And we are delighted to confirm Cambridge have extended their offer to Fleetwood Town supporters for all full-time NHS Employees to receive free admission.

That means you can travel on one of our official coaches and watch the game for just a fiver!

Proof of NHS employment in person at the ticket office is all is required to secure your match ticket. Tickets must be used on the day by the employee redmeeming them - proof will be requested upon entry.

Coach travel and tickets are available from the club shop at Highbury Stadium until 4pm on Friday.

Supporters can pay on the day, although please be aware there will be a £2 increase.
