FLEETWOOD TOWN

Fleetwood Town will be looking to get back to winning ways, after narrowly losing out to Burton Albion on Tuesday, as they are set to travel to Portman Road to face the Tractor Boys in another Sky Bet League One clash.

A superb first-half performance from skipper, Alex Cairns, was soiled by an undefendable goal from Burton, as the weather helped Thomas O’Connor’s corner. Fleetwood were very unfortunate to not get anything out of the game after their second-half performance caused quite a few problems for the away side.

In the game before that, Fleetwood Town played their first game since the international break and three second-half goals from Callum Johnson, Danny Andrew, and Ged Garner was enough for the home side to collect all three points against Crewe Alexandra.

Fleetwood had several great chances to take the lead in the first half but due to a couple of good saves from Will Jaaskelainen and the post, the scores remained level at half-time. Well-deserved goals from Johnson and another stunning free-kick from Andrew were the difference makers for Fleetwood in the second half, taking the game away from Crewe.

IPSWICH TOWN

Paul Cook’s side head into the fixture at the weekend on the back of a dominant performance in their 4-0 away win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Macauley Bonne carried on his goal-scoring form to break the deadlock on the day just before the half-time break, with second-half goals from Conor Chaplin, Sone Aluko, and former-Cod Wes Burns adding to the tally ahead of the final whistle to secure a comfortable win for the side.

Late drama shook the result up in the game before as Cambridge United came back from 2-0 down to draw against Ipswich at Abbey Stadium, levelling it up two minutes before the end.

Aluko netted a first-half brace in the away clash, with the game looking like it would be Ipswich’s to take but a goal from James Brophy in the 40^th minute halved the deficit and a Joe Ironside strike in the final moments of the game meant the points would have to be shared on the day.

Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press ahead of Fleetwood Town’s Sky Bet League One clash against Ipswich on Saturday. Here is what he had to say in his interview:

“We will be respectful of the opposition, and I’m sure Paul Cook and his team will be respectful to us. They are a strong team, you only have to look at the squad they’ve got, even with the quality of some of the players who aren’t even in their 25 – it’s ridiculous the number of players they’ve got.

“They’ve had some good results recently, most notably their win over Portsmouth, which was a great result, but we will go there in good spirits knowing that we can play as good as anybody.

“We went to Rotherham and beat them 4-2, we went to MK Dons and drew 3-3, and drew 2-2 against Sunderland. They are all in the top six right now, with some even in the top two so we know we are capable of giving anybody a game."

Report: Injury-time goal sees Fleetwood Narrowly lose out to Ipswich

Fleetwood Town narrowly lost out Ipswich Town as the hosts scored the winning goal deep into injury time at Portman Road.

Callum Morton thought he had found a vital equaliser to cancel out Conor Chaplin’s opener, but Bersant Celina snatched the draw away from the visitors in the 93^rd minute.

The first chance of the game fell to Kyle Edwards, but his shot from the left-hand side of the box was no trouble for Alex Cairns.

Fleetwood showed promising signs early on as a well-worked free-kick routine set Ged Garner up with a chance, but the striker couldn’t get the ball out from under his feet quick enough and the attempt on goal was blocked.

Macauley Bonne was the next man to try and break the deadlock as he found himself free in the middle of the box, but his attempted header was saved confidently by Cairns.

Morton tried the extraordinary as Town’s number nine looked to divert Callum Johnson’s cross by attempting an overhead kick, unfortunately, it was saved comfortably by Christian Walton.

Great individual play to keep the attack live from Dan Batty and he found G.Garner in an acre of space inside the box but once again, the forward failed to get the shot off quick enough.

The game stayed level, despite Ipswich having a good chance on the half-hour mark through Toto Nsiala, however, his headed effort went just over the bar.

Fleetwood looked to put the pressure on just before half-time as Batty, who never stopped running all half, chased down a loose ball in the corner and gave it to C.Johnson, who tried to play in Morton, but an unfortunate deflection took it out of his path.

Chaplin opened the scoring for the hosts as his left-footed strike from just outside the box left Cairns with no chance as it nestled the bottom right corner.

A great save from Town’s captain to keep the score at 1-0 as Edwards fired on across goal, but Cairns kept a strong hand to deny the opposition and send his side on the counter-attack.

From that counter, Fleetwood won a free-kick and Batty tried to be clever and it very nearly paid off, his low-driven shot under the wall was only kept out by a good save from Walton.

Garner was the man closest to getting on the scoresheet for Fleetwood, his linkup play with Harrison Biggins set him up nicely for a shot on goal, but Walton was equal to the task.

Town began to pile on the pressure with 20 minutes left through Batty, who was played in behind the Ipswich backline by Johnson, but his cross was put behind for a corner.

Cairns was called upon once again to deny the hosts and once again he did so with a fantastic save. Bonne’s low-driven attempt on goal was parried to safety by Town’s number one.

Morton brought the sides back on level terms with just under 10 minutes to go, thanks to an inch-perfect cross by Paddy Lane that found the #9 at the far post who made no mistake in nodding in from close range.

Fleetwood came so close to walking away with a point, but they, unfortunately, couldn’t see the game out as Celina scored an injury-time winner.

Second coach added for Town's trip down south to face Ipswich

A second coach has been added for Saturday's Sky Bet League One away trip to face Ipswich Town.

The Cods are set to travel to Portman Road on Saturday 23 October (3pm kick-off). The Cod Army have been travelling in numbers so far this season and we want that to continue as Town face The Tractor Boys.
