Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad managed to beat Walsall 3-0 at Birmingham County FA on Tuesday afternoon.
Max McMillan had the first chance of the afternoon as he worked a yard of space and tried his luck from range, with his shot hitting the post and then deflecting out of danger.
Soon after, Walsall were on the attack for themselves as Antonio Cristofaro found some space outside the Fleetwood box and struck the ball towards goal, but the effort went wide.
It was an even end to the first half as both sides created one last chance before the break. Jack Lynch fed Marvellous Onabirekhanlen through for a one-on-one, with his shot saved.
Chris Conn-Clarke then took the ball down the other end of the pitch and had a shot from a tight angle but dragged the shot wide of Zach Hedge’s far post.
Town then set their sights on breaking the deadlock in the second half and it didn’t take long to happen as McMillan finished off a move by poking the ball over the Walsall line from close range to make it 1-0.
The young Cods would double their lead in the 62nd minute through first-year pro-Ben Thompson as he produced a brilliant volley which left the opposition goalkeeper with no chance.
Chances were flowing at this point as Max Clark's effort on goal forced Hedge into a save from a tight angle, but it was Danny Edwards – who has just joined Kendal Town on a youth loan – who made it three with just under 20 minutes to go.
After firing a shot into the post, Edwards was rewarded with a goal as on the next attack, he was able to tap home a poachers finish from close range to make the game three-nil.
