Development Squad pick up all three points against Morecambe

15 October 2019

Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad opened their Central League campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Morecambe at Poolfoot Farm on Tuesday afternoon.

After a positive start to the match, it was Welsh U21 international Dan Mooney who scored the first goal after Harvey Saunders’ low cross into the box found Mooney unmarked.

Town’s dominance from that point on showed when Harrison Holgate made it 2-0 to Stephen Crainey’s side midway through the first-half. Saunders made it three on the stroke of half-time with a long range strike – which the keeper couldn’t keep out.

Morecambe had their moments in the match, but on the day the side that took their chances went on to win the game. Cole Stockton – the Shrimpers’ forward – was the man who went the closest for the visitors, but it wasn’t to be his day in front of goal.

The Development Squad’s next game will be against the same opponents on Tuesday 29 October, however this time in the Central League Cup, with the match taking place at Poolfoot Farm, with kick-off at 1pm.

Town XI: Cottam (GK), Southam-Hales (Goldsborough 77’), Hill, Holgate, Rydel, Smith, Matete, Baggley (Johnston 80’), Mooney, Garner, Saunders (O’Halleron 80’).

Morecambe XI: Mendes (GK), Bakare, Cranston, Shogbeni, Sutton, Lynch, Howard, Jagne, Stockton, Mendes-Gomes, Hawley

Subs: O’Brien (GK), Cannon-Noren, Price, Giwa, Moore
