November 2007/08

 Sorry Folks, It's Off:
30/11/07 17:30

Continuous heavy rain throughout the afternoon has, sadly, caused the postponement of this evening's much anticipated Reserve game against Workington.

Thoughts from the Dugout:
Big Match Preview with Tony Greenwood
30/11/07 16:00

'Tomorrow will be some game,' says Tony Greenwood talking about tomorrow's visit to Guiseley. 'Sure, it's a six pointer, but it's also an opportunity for us to measure ourselves against one of the best teams in the league, on their patch, and to show that we're sat in second place on merit.'

Joining the squad, tomorrow, will be Zak Hibbert. Zak is a young goalkeeper, signed on loan from Burscough, and he takes his place in the first team squad in order to provide cover, alongside Mike Hale, for the injured Danny Hurst.

 FTFC Reserves v Workington Reserves:
30/11/07 01:30

A big game tonight for the table topping Fleetwood Town Reserves as they entertain the only unbeaten team in the Lancashire League, Workington Reserves. And, with several first team players in need of a game, Steve Edwards is sending out a 'big' team to match the occasion. Kick off is at 7:45pm, and the bar will be open!

Squad: Mike Hale, Kyle Webster, Shaun Gray, Johnathan Smith, Nathan Pond, Mark Davis, Paul Haddow, Ciaran Donnelly, Richie Allen, Joel Cowell, Chris Watkinson, Mike Tallentire, Anthony Warwick

**Update 11:30am:   Following the overnight rain, and because of the travelling distance involved for the Workington team, a pitch inspection was made at 11:00am this morning. And it's game on: so get down to Highbury this evening!

Club of the Month:
29/11/07 12:30

Fleetwood Town have been selected as the UniBond League Premier Division 'Club of the Month' for November, ahead of Witton Albion. The award, bottles of bubbly, will be presented at our next home game, against Stamford AFC on December 8th. There is also a rumour that we're in for the 'Fair Play Award' as well! More later.....

U18s Match Postponed:
28/11/07 11:30

Tonight's Fleetwood Town U18s game against Colne FC has been postponed. The pitch is a little soft after the recent rain and so, with two games scheduled before the weekend, rather than take the risk of it cutting up, tonight's game has been postponed to a later date. The next U18s home fixture is on Wednesday December 12th against Kendal Town U18s, kick off 7:30pm.

New Security Arrangements:
Press Release: 28/11/07

Success is a wondrous thing but, in addition to the cups, the medals, the euphoria and the esteem, it also brings new challenges, not all of which are related to on field affairs.

Fleetwood Town have announced the appointment of Olwis Secure Limited (OSL) to handle match day security. OSL Managing Director Leanne Murray is pictured here with Andy Pilley. Read more.....

November 24th 2007 21:00

The table says it all, doesn't it?

A confident, controlled and accomplished performance from the lads today as they gradually tightened the screws on Ashton United to run out comfortable winners. Goals from Kieran Walmsley, Steve Foster and Nathan Pond in an assured team performance with everyone on song.

Team: Hale, Beeley, Fitzgerald, Robinson, Mercer, Pond, Walmsley (Allen), Milligan, Bell (Foster), Wright (Denney), Watt

Next Up Ashton United:
November 24th 2007 12:00

Cold and dank it may be, but we're looking forward to a red hot atmosphere this afternoon. The pitch is looking good, marked out and ready to go for this important clash with Ashton United. With Witton Albion, Gateshead and Guiseley all busy with the FA Trophy, three points today will really up the ante in the promotion stakes.

Following the goal fest in midweek, spirits are obviously high, although we would expect Tony Greenwood to opt for a slightly more restrained approach today! Kick off 3:00pm. Get there early.

UniBond League Cup:
November 22nd 2007 15:30

It's a home draw against Marine in the next round of the League Cup, to be played on Saturday January 5th 2008. The full draw is here.

 As You Were.........
November 21st 2007 07:30

UniBond and the LFA have now agreed to switch the Chorley and Buxton fixtures back to their former dates and so it is Chorley in the Co-operative Challenge Trophy on December 4th, and Buxton in the league on December 11th. Sorry about the confusion.................

Fleetwood Town 7 Warrington Town 3:
November 20th 2007 22:00

Party time at Highbury tonight as Fleetwood ran Warrington ragged. 6-1 up at half time, Town still kept the pressure on after the break, but keeper Danny Morton, atoning for his first half 'mare, prevented the double figures. Goals for Allen, Denney, Walmsley and Donnelly, and a hat trick for Peter Wright. A good debut too for Jerome Watt.

Team: Hale, Walmsley, Beeley, Gray, Mercer, Robinson (Fitzgerald), Watt, Milligan (Donnelly), Denney (Bell), Wright, Allen

The Gazette - A Statement:
November 20th 2007 17:30

We wish to advise that, following what we consider to be further recent inappropriate press coverage of our club’s affairs in the Gazette, our long running dissatisfaction with one specific reporter has once again resurfaced to the extent that we have taken the decision to exclude him from our stadium and to prevent him from having any contact with all Fleetwood Town FC officials.

In response to these actions, the Gazette have intimated to us that they intend reducing the coverage given to the club’s affairs, and this is already apparent based on recent limited coverage in their newspaper.

We remain keen to work with the Gazette’s Sports Editor to try to find a solution acceptable to both parties and we have previously made clear to the Gazette, on a number of occasions, that we would work closely with an alternative reporter to ensure they had full access to all the club’s personnel at all times. We firmly believe that it is in all party’s interests to ensure that, as we approach probably the most exciting time in our club’s history, both on and off the pitch, that all our affairs are given appropriate coverage to satisfy the needs of the local readership and of our supporters.

We therefore sincerely hope that the Gazette’s Sports Editor, Andy Moore, remains as committed as we are to maintaining a dialogue to attempt to resolve the current position. We will continue to provide formal press releases to them, irrespective of how they deal with this particular situation, going forward with the hope that they feel it appropriate to report on the activities of the second biggest sports organisation within their Fylde Coast readership area.

Fleetwood Town Sign Jerome Watt:Jerome_Watt
November 19th 2007 21:30

Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce the signing of Jerome Watt, recently released by Southport FC.

Comfortable in midfield, but at his best on the left wing, Jerome, aged 23, has an outstanding pedigree having started his career at Blackburn Rovers before moving on to Northampton. Impressive trials this year with Salisbury, Morecambe and Rochdale didn't lead to the opportunities his ability deserves, and we are very happy that he has chosen Fleetwood Town to further his career. Jerome represented England 33 times in several age groups up to U20 level and joins the squad for tomorrow's UniBond League Challenge Cup tie against Warrington Town.

Les Taylor:
November 19th 2007 17:00

We wish to advise that our General Manager, Les Taylor, has today resigned from his role at the club. We have, with regret, accepted his resignation and we wish to thank him for his hard work during his time with us. We would also like to wish him every success in the future.

Fixture Changes?
November 18th 2007 21:30

The Lancashire FA have moved the date of the Chorley cup game to December 11th, presumably to allow time for the completion of delayed games from earlier rounds. We are endeavouring to switch the Buxton league game back to December 4th, so watch this space!

North Ferriby United 1 Fleetwood Town 2:
November 17th 2007 21:30

Peter_WrightThree good points today, taking us into second place in the league, although we did make it hard work at times against a team playing better than their league position would suggest. 1-0 down after an even first half, the equaliser came from debutant Peter Wright, pictured left, whose signing from Kendal only received final clearance this morning. Alex Taylor, incidentally heads off in the opposite direction to Kendal on one month's loan. The winner came from Phil Denney, put through by a bit of Milly Magic.

Team: Hale, Beeley, Fitzgerald, Robinson, Mercer, Pond, Walmsley, Milligan, Foster (Denney), Bell, Brown (Wright) Not used: Gray

Co-operative Challenge Trophy:
November 17th 2007 08:00

It's an away-day in the quarter final round, at Chorley FC. The game will be played on Tuesday December 4th, kick off 7:45pm with the Buxton League game pushed back a week to December 11th.

In the other ties, Bacup Borough visit Burscough or Bamber Bridge, Ashton Athletic host Leigh RMI, and Southport are at home to Rossendale United.

Fleetwood Town 2 Radcliffe Borough 1:
November 13th 2007 22:00

Fairly smooth progress through to the next round of the Co-operative Challenge Trophy, although a string of missed chances meant that we had to endure a few last minute jitters. Denney opened the scoring inside the first minute, with Bell adding the second just after the break.

Team: Hale, Robinson, Gray, Moran, J Smith (Reid), Davis (Haddow), Brown, Donnelly, Denney (Taylor), Bell, Warwick Not used: Pond, M Smith

More later.....

Full results are here.

Fleetwood Town 1 Lincoln United 0:
November 10th 2007 17:30

It took a while to get last week out of the system, but there was only ever going to be one winner this afternoon. The Lincoln keeper, Ben Scott, kept his side in the game with a string of superb saves before, as I saw it, Walmsley finished off a Milligan shot that was blocked on the line. A good result made better by Guiseley and Gateshead dropping points.

Team: Hale, Beeley, Fitzgerald, Robinson, Mercer, Pond, Walmsley, Milligan, Foster (Denney), Bell, Reid (Brown) Not used: Gray

Player Moves:
November 9th 2007 18:30

A busy day in the office today with three players on the move. Mickey Saunders' much rumoured loan to Clitheroe was finally agreed today. The loan period is for one month and was instigated by Tony Greenwood in order to get Mickey some regular first team football.

Also on the move is Guy Heffernan. He is moving to Lancaster City, but this time, it is a permanent move. Guy, who joined us in the summer, has not been able to command a regular first team place in recent weeks and his move is the best way of furthering his ambition for regular games. We wish him good luck.

Shaun_Beeley

Finally, a move in the opposite direction as the club have signed right sided defender, Shaun Beeley, from Southport. Shaun, who developed his football skills in the youth and reserve teams at Oldham Athletic, joined Southport in the summer, and goes into the Fleetwood squad for tomorrow's home game with Lincoln United. Welcome Shaun.

Whitby Fixture:
November 9th 2007 08:00

Our remaining 'unallocated' fixture, away to Whitby Town, has been arranged for March 8th 2008.

Darwen Reserves 1 Fleetwood Reserves 2:
November 7th 2007 23:00

The Reserves kept the winning streak going tonight but made it more difficult than it should have been! Two goals from Joel Cowell settled it; the second in the final minute!

Fleetwood Town Reserves:
November 7th 2007 10:00

The Reserves return to action tonight with a fixture away to Darwen FC Reserves. Kick off is at 7:45pm.

Here is the squad: Mark Smith, Christian Dust, Kyle Webster, James Hone, Johnathan Smith, Lennie Reid, Ciaran Donnelly, Mark Davis, Anthony Warwick, Joel Cowell, Paul Bailey, Danny Eden and Mike Tallentire.

Fleetwood Town U18s:
November 7th 2007 10:00

The U18 Team are also in action tonight with an away game against the Lancashire FA U18s at Leyland. Kick off is at 7:30pm.

Retford United 5 Fleetwood Town 1:
November 7th 2007 10:00

The score says it all doesn't it? A lacklustre team performance gave an industrious Retford United a well deserved victory, and a visit to Radcliffe in the next round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy.

Fleetwood Team: Hale, Walmsley, Fitzgerald, Moran, Mercer [Gray], Robinson, Haddow, Pond, Taylor [Denney], Bell, Milligan [Brown] Unused: Donnelly, Smith M.

More later.....

Fixture Changes:
November 7th 2007 10:00

Gateshead did make it through to the next round, to be played on November 24th, and so our scheduled fixture with them on that date has been rescheduled for February 19th. Hmm, who else do we play that week?

Instead, we welcome Ashton United on November 24th, that fixture having been brought forward from March 8th 2008.

Updated Highbury Matchday Poster here.

You Couldn't Make It Up!
November 5th 2007 13:00

If we can get past Retford United tomorrow evening, then we are at home in the next round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy - to the winners of the Chasetown v Radcliffe Borough tie, also replaying tomorrow.

The full draw is here.

Reserves v Darwen
November 4th 2007 14:00

Monday's visit to Darwen has been re-arranged for Wednesday November 7th, 7:45pm kick off.

Fleetwood Town 1 Retford United 1:
November 3rd 2007 17:30

Well, that get's my vote for 'the longest day'. A Steve Foster goal, in an easy first half played in second gear, should have set us up to cruise into the next round of the FA trophy. Instead, we contrived to present the Badgers with an equaliser and earned ourselves a Tuesday trip to Nottinghamshire.
