Mike Sumner to Manage U-18s:

Fleetwood Town FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Sumner as the club's Under 18's Youth Team Manager. Mike began his junior coaching career with Fleetwood Gym before moving to South Shore FC where, during a 8 year tenure, Mike progressed from Under 8's to Under 15's level. Mike also enjoyed a 4 year stint as the Blackpool Representative Team Under 12's coach; a post he held concurrently with that at South Shore. Mike sees his move to Fleetwood Town as an exciting new challenge and commented that he ‘can't wait to get started’.

Chairman Andy Pilley remarked: ‘This is another key appointment and I'm delighted that Mike has agreed to fill this important position’. Mike's assistant will be John Hindle and all connected with Fleetwood Town FC offer the pair a warm welcome to Highbury Stadium.            07:00 31/05/2007

Another Signing for FTFC:

Fleetwood Town FC are delighted to announce the signing of striker Steve Foster.

Despite being AFC Telford's leading goal-scorer last season with 18 goals, Foster was surprisingly released after helping his club to promotion to the Conference North.

The prolific striker had attracted interest from Fleetwood Town prior to his record £5,000 transfer from Radcliffe Borough to AFC Telford and is a player we have long coveted.

Chairman Andy Pilley expressed his delight at Foster's capture, commenting that this signing was a real coup and another important piece in the jigsaw as Town seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2007/08 campaign.

Steve, who lives in Manchester, has signed a 2 year contract with Fleetwood Town and all connected with the club offer him a warm welcome to Highbury.                                                                               19:30 29/05/2007

Alex Taylor joins FTFC:

Fleetwood Town FC is, finally, delighted to announce the signing, late last night, of striker Alex Taylor.

Alex, who is aged 20 and was born in Lytham, began his career with Burnley and was a regular scorer for both their youth and reserve teams. Despite the fact that Alex was one of the Turf Moor outfits most promising talents, he was surprisingly released in the summer of 2005. Fleetwood Town were interested in signing Alex after his exit from Burnley but the young striker opted to join the then Conference North side, Lancaster City. Alex finished season 2005/06 as Lancaster's top scorer but with the Giant Axe club experiencing financial difficulties, Taylor signed for fellow Conference North rivals Barrow in June 2006.

Alex is a gifted young striker with enormous potential and all connected with FTFC offer him a warm welcome to Highbury Stadium.

And with a further high profile signing to be finalised shortly, the club is clearly intent upon improving on last season's impressive Premier League debut. More details as soon as we have them....                    07:30 25/05/2007

FTFC Juniors Girls Teams:

Fleetwood Town Juniors are delighted to welcome on board Paul Holme and his very successful U-13s Girls team. The girls have already won many competitions and they are one of the County's best girls teams in this age group.

This is more great news for Fleetwood Town FC and its ambition to become a Community Club. We are now recruiting an U-10s Girls team and have had good support and encouragement from local schools. Girls’ football has taken off around the world and is one of the fastest growing sports.  Most of the girls are already FTFC supporters and they will bring a very enthusiastic parent group with them to add even more vocal support.

FTFC Appoint Community Development Officer:

Fleetwood Town’s ambitious plans for the future have moved on apace this weekend with the appointment of Chris Garrett as the club’s first ever Community Development Officer.

Chris, who is Fleetwood based, has extensive experience in youth football having served Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers in coaching, scouting and community development officer capacities. Some of the footballing figures that Chris has worked with will be very familiar names to long-standing Fleetwood fans; most notably Craig Madden, Barry Knowles and Peter Farrell who all served Fleetwood with distinction in the late 80’s-early 90’s.

Chris’s main challenge is to strengthen links between Fleetwood Town FC and local schools as the club seeks to further its aim of becoming a genuine community club. The full story is here.

Press Release:

Richard Allen
Fleetwood Town announced today that they have transfer listed Richard Allen. After a disappointing 2nd half to season 2006/2007, both parties believe that a move is in the best interests of both player and club.

Other news
Phil Denney, Jerome Fitzgerald, Michael Brown and Martin Moran have all agreed new deals for next season with several others set to follow very soon. In addition, Fleetwood are in talks with one prospective new signing. More news when we have it.

Press Release: Nathan Pond signs new 2 year deal

Fleetwood Town FC are delighted to announce that the long-serving Nathan Pond has signed a new 2 year contract with the club.

The 22 year old Pond, already a veteran of almost 200 games in a period spanning 5 seasons, has played a major role in Fleetwood's amazing success of the past 3 seasons. His goal clinched the UniBond Challenge Trophy victory against Matlock last month while 43 goals in 192 league and cup appearances for Town is testimony to his ability and consistency. The combative midfielder is an important piece in the jigsaw as manager Tony Greenwood sets about preparing Fleetwood Town for the 2007/08 season, Pond's ability to play in a variety of different roles making the tough tackling midfielder a key figure.

All connected with FTFC look forward to another 2 great years with Nathan in the ranks.                                                                                07:30 10/05/2007

More Football at Highbury:

If you witnessed Fleetwood U-13s last home game against Foxhall, then you will be delighted to hear that they play their final game of the season at Highbury Stadium tomorrow evening, Thursday May 10th.

And what a game it is! Fleetwood lead the league by one point, ahead of Bispham Juniors, tomorrow's opponents. BJFF have won the league for the last two seasons, with Fleetwood second, so one point or more tomorrow gives Fleetwood the Championship of the Blackpool and District Youth League (North). Kick off is at 6:30pm.                                         09:30 09/05/2007

FTFC Annual Awards:

Gawd; that was a loooooooong night!

If you missed the party, the 'Supporters' Player of the Year' was Andy Bell, who also picked up the 'Golden Boot'. Jamie Milligan was equally deserving of his 'Players' Player of the Year' award and Lee Pryers earned the vote of the management team as 'Manager's Player of the Year' for his commitment and enthusiasm, whether on the bench or picking up the League Cup.

FTFC Reserves 4 Barrow Reserves 1:

The Reserves finished their season in style last night, here is Steve Edwards' match report:-

Fleetwood Town completed their season with a comprehensive victory over their Cumbrian rivals. Town were dominant throughout and, after some poor recent performances by their standards, produced a fine display of attacking football. The home side opened the scoring when a long ball by Michael Tallentire picked out Kevin Murray who stepped inside his marker and unselfishly squared the ball for Chris Watkinson to score.

Changes were made at half time and the result was two goals in as many minutes to put the game out of Barrow's reach. The first followed some persistent work from Matty Ogden, having chased the ball down he got struck by the defenders clearance and the ball cannoned in of his body. Joel Cowell was next to score when he sprang the off side trap and coolley finished from ten yards. Barrow pulled a goal back against the run of play on 70 minutes when Dave Stephenson in the Town goal was deceived by a smartly taken shot from the edge of the box. Fleetwood regained their three goal lead with ten minutes to go, however, when Kieran Rimmington, making his Town debut, raced onto a through ball and scored a very well taken goal.                                                                                                                        07:30 04/05/2007

Reserves Squad for Tonight:

With several of the regular squad committed to Friday's Gledhill Cup Final in Blackpool, Steve Edwards has brought in some fresh faces for the Reserves final game against Barrow this evening. Perhaps the most 'interesting' is David Stephenson, a former England U-16 keeper who had time with Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest. The full squad is:

David Stephenson, Ryan Croft, Ben Buschini, Aidan Curry, Mike Tallentire, Stuart Harris Jnr., Kyle Webster, Jamie Wright, Mike Nicholson, Matty Ogden, Chris Watkinson, Kevin Murray, Anthony Warwick, Kieran Rimmington, Joel Cowell.                                                           09:00 03/05/2007

No Sign of the Close Season Yet!

There's still lots to entertain you with the FTFC Reserves playing their last game against Barrow tomorrow; kick off 8:00pm.

Friday, you may have noticed, is the Annual Awards Presentation Evening and, with a full house expected, it might be a good idea to get there in good time!

Saturday morning, if you're recovered, Blackpool U-15s play Morecambe
U-15s in the Semi Final of the Lancashire Cup kicking off, at Highbury, at 10:30am.                                                                                  08:00 02/05/2007

Football at Highbury Today!

Fleetwood Gym U-13s will play their league game against Foxhall at Highbury Stadium this afternoon, Sunday, kicking off at 2:30pm.
This is their third meeting with Foxhall in as many weeks: the previous two having been excellent games of football. Why not come and have a look at our football future?

Following the U-10s clinching the league title, the U-11's also won their league during the last week and yesterday, Saturday, the U-9s won the Plate Competition at Squires Gate. Match reports on these two later.  20:30 28/04/2007

Ouch!

It's difficult to find the appropriate words to describe what we saw at Ashton today. Maybe I'll settle for 'ignominiousness' and an 'inglorious end to a glorious season'! We were goosed and clearly ready for a couple of weeks on the beach.

The score? 3-0 to Ashton United with Mercer and Pond red carded.

So that is it then, and our congratulations go to Ashton United for beating the drop and to Burscough for winning the league. Let's welcome in the summer recess, starting with the Presentation Evening next Friday at 8:00pm in the Social Club.                                                           20:00 28/04/2007

This is it!

So, finally, we head out for our last game of the 2007/08 season against Ashton United. One last push for sixth place, one last shout for the Cod Army - and then a couple of month's R&R!

Enjoy the game!                                                                         09:00 28/04/2007

Lancashire League Cup Semi Final:

FTFC Reserves 1 Farsley Celtic 3

A patched up Reserves side finally succumbed to a good Farsley Celtic team in a very entertaining game - if not always for the right reasons!
Match report here.                                                                                          09:30 28/04/2007

There's Still Unfinished Business!

Gutted we Cods may be, but let's finish a fabulous season with a rousing performance at Ashton United on Saturday. Ashton, fighting to avoid the '19th place' lottery, picked up a good away win at Whitby last night.

But for starters, the Reserves have a tasty encounter with Farsley Celtic on Friday evening: squad details here just as soon as we get them. 6:30 26/04/2007

Fleetwood Town 0 Mossley AFC 1:

In the end, it was a bridge too far. In a game that mirrored the last three months, Fleetwood were out of the blocks quickly and dominated the game for long periods until late into the game, when injury and fatigue finally took it's toll, and we were pipped at the post.

We'll have a match report later, meanwhile let's spare a thought for the most disappointed bunch of players in the UniBond League. Thanks lads, and we have enjoyed the ride.                                                           22:30 24/04/2007

Atherton Colls 1 FTFC Reserves O:

Fleetwood paid the penalty for a sloppy first half performance. Atherton scored the only goal of the game in the34th minute following a misplaced pass from Ben Buschini. The normally reliable left back was not the only player to have had a poor half as Town constantly gave the ball away. Fleetwood made six changes to the starting eleven from their previous game and it showed in a below par performance.

The second half was a vast improvement and Town pegged back the home side for long periods. However, the end product was always missing and Atherton were quite happy to run the clock down at every opportunity. Danny Eden, Fleetwood's best player of the game, Michael Tallentire, Matthew Ogden and Jamie Wright all went close, but it was not to be and Fleetwood fell to their fourth loss of a disappointing season.

The Cup now remains as their only chance of replicating last season achievements and Farsley Celtic await them in Friday's Semi Final.
                                                                                                   07:30 24/04/2007

Fleetwood Town v Mossley AFC:

With only six days to go to the end of the season, who would have thought, back in the dark and soggy winter, that we'd still be contemplating life in the Conference North.

Well, Tony Greenwood for one, and he wants to know if you're still enjoying the ride! Join him on the last lap at 7:45pm tomorrow and let's see how Matlock and Marine take the pressure.                                      21:30 23/04/2007

FTFC Reserves Away to Atherton Colls:

The Reserves complete their away league programme tomorrow night with a visit to Atherton Collieries. With Hale, Cowell, and Warwick saved for first team duties on Tuesday, and Mark Davies and Sean Slater injured, Steve Edwards will bring in a couple more new faces.

Squad: Mark Smith, Ben Buschini, Dane Matthews, Mike Tallentire, Tom Didlock, Danny Eden, Kyle Webster, Mike Nicholson, Jamie Wright, Matthew Ogden, James Hone, Stuart Harris Jnr and Aidan Currie.

Ogden, who played against Workington, is joined by fellow former Blackpool Youth player Matthews, a centre back.                      19:30 22/04/2007

Supporter's Coach to Ashton:

With the play off positions remaining undecided until the last day of the season, we will be running a Supporters Coach to the Ashton United game.

Please make your reservations at the Club Shop on Tuesday evening or via email here. Membership of the Travel Club is required.              15:00 22/04/2007

Fleetwood Town 4 Ilkeston Town 1:

A comfortable, controlled and competent display today as goals from Pryers, Bell, Pond and Pryers again had the game sown up before the Ilkeston consolation. In other games, Guisely sneaked a win but Matlock dropped two points at home. Game on!

Team: Hale, Walmsley, Gray, Moran, Mercer, Pond, Brown, Haddow (Charnock), Bell (Cowell), Milligan (Warwick), Pryers.              17:30  21/04/2007

Fleetwood Town v Ilkeston Town:

The Cup does look good in the cabinet, but that is now history as we prepare for today's visit of Il'son Town. After four whole days without a game, let's hope that our walking wounded are now jogging a bit!

As TG says, 'All we can do is win it', so get down to Highbury today and roar them on. And keep the faith.                                              07:30  21/04/2007

Fleetwood Gym U-13s:

Whilst we were all sunning ourselves last Sunday, the soon-to-be FTFC Juniors U-13s were playing in the Semi Final of the Hogan Cup at Stanley Park Oval. Despite goals from Amos, Duffield and Berry, Foxhall pipped us 4-3 with a last minute winner. Match report here.                        14:30 18/04/2007

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

The Blackpool FC Reserves season that is! Their home game against Tranmere Rovers has been switched to Highbury from Bloomfield Road and will be played tomorrow, April 18th, kick off 7:00pm.                  17:30 17/04/2007

We've Won the Cup, We've Won the Cup!

A looping header from Nathan Pond, just before half time, was enough to put the UniBond League Challenge Cup on the bus back to Fleetwood.

Matlock opened brightly and Mike Hale needed to be in top form as Matlock piled on the pressure in the opening minutes. Gradually, however, Fleetwood Town took command, working and running hard and tirelessly, denying Matlock any time on the ball and constantly threatening with Bell and the midfield running into space. The 1-0 scoreline always kept Matlock interested, but a second goal would not have flattered us. Excellent support from the Cod Army, and a good bunch from Matlock, ensured a good atmosphere and completed a memorable evening. Report.

Team: Hale, Walmsley, Gray, Moran, Robinson, Pond, Brown, Haddow, Bell (Allen), Milligan, Pryers Substitutes Not Used: Charnock, Moore

UniBond League Challenge Cup Final:

OK, it's a day of R&R before we take on Matlock Town in the final of the ULCC.

First off, there are about three seats left on the Supporter's Coach, so you can still book a ride in style on 770702 or email here. The coach departs from Highbury at 5:30pm.

On the playing side, it's less clear cut. Late fitness tests will be necessary, despite everyone wanting a place in the Cup Final, and TG has covered all the bases by drafting in a couple of the Reserve Squad as additional cover.

The Witton Albion ground staff are pulling out all the stops to make this a memorable final, so get in there! Enjoy the game!                                18:30 15/04/2007

Grantham Town 0 Fleetwood Town 2

On a baking hot day (ask the travelling cods) and a rock hard pitch, it was another case of 'job done'.

After Mickey Saunders took advantage of a defensive error to score in the 9th minute, Grantham rarely troubled our back line. A Milligan penalty, below, for hand ball in the 46th minute killed off the second half. The only negatives - both Saunders and Fitzgerald limped off for treatment in the second half.

Team: Hale, Walmsley, Pryers, Moran, Mercer, Pond, Brown, Milligan, Saunders (Haddow), Allen (Charnock), Fitzgerald (Robinson).   08:00 15/04/2007

Fleetwood v Grantham:

It's an early start today as we regroup and head south to Grantham. We can expect another tough game as Grantham, already relegated and looking for a manager, rediscover the joys of pressure free football!

Elsewhere though, Burscough visit Guiseley, Marine host Whitby, and Hednesford are at Ilkeston - so this league is far from over.

Keep the faith!                                                                          07:30 14/04/2007

FTFC Reserves 1 Workington Reserves 0:

Fleetwood progressed to the semi finals of the League Cup, to face either Altrincham or Farsley Celtic, with a much improved outing from their previous game. Mark Smith, in Town's goal, was never really called into action throughout the game.

Town were back to something near their best in the first half with Anthony Warwick pulling the strings down the home sides left flank. Matthew Ogden, just released by Blackpool, made his Fleetwood debut and had a very solid game. Chris Whitewood also returned to the side to make up a front three with Ogden and Joel Cowell.

It was Cowell who scored what turned out to be the winning goal on 17 minutes. Some good interplay saw the flying forward skip away from his marker and he finished superbly from a narrow angle. The  closest Town came to increasing their lead came from a Warwick corner. Mike Tallentire crashed a header off the bar.

Fleetwood were content to sit a little deeper in the second period and hit Workington with a succession of counter attacks. Ogden ,three times, had chances to mark his debut but the keeper saved twice and he blasted one over with the other. Non the less it was an encouraging performance from the front man. Workington were a very hard working side and made Fleetwood battle all the way.                                                      08:00 13/04/2007

FTFC Reserves v Workington Reserves:

Mark Smith starts in goal for tonight's Lancashire League Cup Quarter Final Tie. The rest of the squad is Croft, Buschini, Slater, Tallentire, Webster, Eden, Cowell, Watkinson, Warwick, Hone and Wright.

Steve Edwards signed up three former Blackpool Youth players yesterday. It is hoped that their registrations will be completed in time for them to join tonight's squad.                                                                          08:00 13/04/2007

Burscough 4 Fleetwood Town 1

It wasn't the best of nights but, 4-0 down approaching half-time, it threatened to get a lot worse. Jamie Milligan pulled one back on the stroke of half-time when a left wing cross found the top corner.

The second half was notable for Milligan picking up a second yellow for something or other and a gutsy performance from a ten man team. And if the football was a bit flat, there was always the referee to entertain you.

Team: Hurst, Robinson, Pryers, Moran, Mercer, Walmsley (Haddow), Brown, Charnock (Allen), Saunders (Cowell), Milligan, Fitzgerald

Fleetwood Town v Burscough FC

Tonight sees us in Burscough for the latest in our long run of 'season defining' games!

TG and the squad have worked wonders to get us into this position, so let's get down there and give them some support. Keep the faith!     08:30 11/04/2007

FTFC Reserves 0 Skelmersdale 1:

Town's second string lost their unbeaten home record, stretching back eighteen months, in a dull game last night. The only goal was a well crafted free kick in the seventy first minute.

Fleetwood were never really at the races all night and looked a shadow of the side that has taken them to second place in the league and into a Cup quarter final. They created little but also had some misfortune in front of goal with the visitors three times clearing off the goal line.

Steve Edwards and the squad will be looking for a return to form for Friday's Cup match with Workington.                                                      08:30 11/04/2007

FTFC Reserves v Skelmersdale Reserves:

The squad for tonight's game is Hale, Webster, Croft, Tallentire, Slater, Didlock, Davis, Warwick, Cowell, Buschini, Eden, Wright, and Nicolson, who should also be joined by a trialist. Kick off 7:45pm.             18:30 10/04/2007

Fleetwood Town 0 Radcliffe Borough 3:

There really isn't much to report on this one!. A game going nowhere was livened up when we conceded a penalty, and we then conceded two breakaway goals as we piled forward in an attempt to rescue something from the game.

This was probably our least convincing performance of the season, and in front of a good crowd of 685. Fortunately, other results again went our way, so we have a chance to make amends at Burscough on Wednesday.
                                                                                                                                                       19:00 9/04/2007

Fleetwood Town v Radcliffe Borough:

With Saturdays results also working in our favour, the league table is starting to look just a little scarey!

See you at Highbury this afternoon, kick off 3:00pm, for the next installment in the Fleetwood Town Saga                                                     10:00 9/04/2007

Any supporter wishing to travel MUST complete the Travel Membership Form which is available here. It follows too that supporters must fully complete and sign the form and must also understand that by doing so they agree to fully comply with the rules stated on the membership form.

For those supporters without internet access, the club will be making paper copies available at the club shop at Monday's home game with Radcliffe Borough.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.                                                                         12:00 8/04/2007

Fleetwood Town 1 Mossley AFC 0;

And they did give us a game.....

Sterling defence, with Danny Hurst again in magisterial form, bought us a priceless three points today. The goal, and almost our only clear cut chance, came from a Milligan cross field pass picking out Michael Brown at the gallop.

And with other results going our way, it's still game on!               21:00 6/04/2007

Mossley Await!

An interesting game today as TG looks to maintain the Witton performance levels against, on paper, a slightly less demanding opponent.

Mossley, sat in 20th place, have had some vital wins over fellow strugglers Grantham, Leek and Radcliffe in the last month, but they have also been rolled over by Guiseley, Gateshead and Marine.

But they always give us a game............See you there.                08:30 6/04/2007

FTFC Reserves 2 Bamber Bridge Reserves O:

Town completed their League Cup group with a hard fought win against a determined Bamber Bridge. The visitors started the better but lacked any real cutting edge up front and somewhat against the run of play, Fleetwood took the lead on ten minutes. Following some trickery from Anthony Warwick down the left flank, the resulting corner was flicked on at the near post by Mark Davis and the ball was finally bundled over the line by Paul Haddow.

Although Bamber Bridge dominated possession in the second half Mike Hale in the Town goal was only tested in the last five minutes when he was asked to make a sharp save to his right. The home side always posed a danger with their front two of Joel Cowell and Anthony Warwick a constant danger. It was Cowell who wrapped up the game with five minutes to go when, slipped through by Warwick, he calmly beat the keeper with the visiting defence trailing in his wake as he raced clear.

Town now move on to the quarter finals where they meet Workington on Friday April 13th.                                                                           08:00 6/04/2007

FTFC Reserves v Bamber Bridge Reserves:

The Reserves return to action tonight with the much delayed cup tie against Bamber Bridge. Why not pop down and keep your tonsils in tune ready for the Easter weekend?

The squad is: Hale, Didlock, Slater, Tallentire, Hone, Haddow, Webster, Davis, Warwick, Allen, Cowell, Watkinson, Buschini, Eden and Matthews
                                                                                                                                                   01:00 5/04/2007

It Still Looks Good!

Now that the excitement of last night has subsided we can enjoy a period of quiet reflection on the game...........OK, that's enough!

That was probably our best performance of the season. Witton started the game believing that they were the best team in the league and pressed hard for the first 20 minutes. Resolute defense in front of a keeper playing on top of his form held them and then turned the tide in our favour when Kieran Walmsley and Andy Bell both scored excellent goals.

The second half was more about comfortable controlled football than chasing a third goal, and more about securing a valuable three points for a team that worked hard throughout, played a lot of good football and deserved the win. Onwards and upwards!                                  07:30 4/04/2007

Fleetwood Town 2 Witton Albion 0
