March 2006/07

Fleetwood Town 1 Ossett Town 0

Blame the weather! A lethargic Fleetwood just didn't get going today, but still managed to take all the points thanks to substitute Andy Bell's solo effort. Winning ugly it's called!

Team: Hale, Walmsley, Moran, Gray, Mercer, Pond, Brown, Milligan, Denney (Bell), Saunders (Moore), Allen (Fitzgerald)                  19:00 31/03/2007

FTFC v Ossett Town:

Today we welcome Ossett Town to Highbury in the return fixture after our victory over them on the first day of the season. The squad arrived home from Matlock in high spirits in the early hours of Thursday morning, following our good draw there, and TG is sure to keep that spark going into today's 'six pointer'.                                                                                 09:00 31/03/2007

Ground Grading Success!

Earlier today, FTFC received a visit from officials of the UniBond League and the Football Association as they carried out their planned Ground Grading Assessment of Highbury Stadium relative to the requirements of the Conference League North.

A jubilant Andy Pilley has just announced that we passed the ground grading in all respects. This is the culmination of many months of hard work and, to quote the League and FA Officials, 'We are delighted with the progress being made here at the Fleetwood Town Stadium and everyone involved should be very proud of themselves.'

A full press release will be available shortly.                                21:00 29/03/2007

Matlock Town 1 Fleetwood Town 1

An early Phil Denney goal knocked Matlock out of their stride and we had the best of a first half when we could have secured all three points. The second half was backs to the wall as Matlock showed some of the form that has carried them into the top five and grabbed an equaliser from a 77th minute corner. We remained good value for our point, however, with Shaun Gray leading a spirited back four.

The back four included Kieran Walmsley at right back. Kieran, who signed yesterday, has joined the club from Morecambe and is on loan until the end of the season. With Robbo injured, he provides much needed cover for the right flank.

Team: Hurst, Walmsley, Pryers, Moran, Gray, Charnock (Pond), Brown, Milligan, Bell (Saunders), Denney, Fitzgerald (Allen)                   08:00 29/03/2007

Fleetwood Town 4 Grantham Town 1

A bit of a stroll in the park as Fleetwood opened up a three goal lead with goals from Mickey Saunders and Phil Denney (2). A signature defensive lapse was quickly erased by a signature Richie Allen goal to complete the scoring.

So, other than the slightly worrying injury to Phil Robinson, it was mission accomplished as we gear up for tomorrow's big game at Matlock. Don't say it too loud, but a win there and we move into eighth place.

Team: Hurst, Robinson (Denney), Pryers, Moran, Gray, Haddow (Milligan), Brown, Pond (Charnock), Moore, Saunders, Allen                     22:00 27/03/2007

Fleetwood Town v Grantham Town

Tonight brings the first of three games in five days; three games that could really light the blue touch paper. 'The players are relishing the challenge,' says TG. 'They can see that the play offs are still achievable and they're up for it.'  You can expect some changes in the line up from Saturday as, utilising his full squad, Tony is not just picking tonight's team, but the teams for Wednsday and Saturday as well.

Kick Off as usual at 7:45pm. Don't miss it!                                  08:00 27/03/2007

AFC Telford 2 Fleetwood Town 2

This was a cracking game of football. Two fabulous goals, from Michael Brown and Jamie Milligan, and a stunning penalty save from Danny Hurst should have earned us the points: but maybe a draw was a fair result. Not many teams will take 4 points from Telford this season! More later.

A Good Start to the Weekend

FTFC Reserves got the weekend off to a good start last night when they beat Burscough Reserves 3-0 with goals from Chris Watkinson, Richie Allen and Michael Tallentire.

Let's keep up the good work today at Telford and look forward to both the players and the fans playing their part in a memorable day.      08:00 24/03/2007

FTFC Reserves Team for Tonight:

Here is the team for this evening's Lancashire League game against Burscough:

Hale, Croft, Moran, Slater, Webster, Eden, Davis, Allen, Warwick, Buschini and Watkinson

Now that's worth missing Corrie for, especially when, in addition, there will be three new triallists for you to assess! Kick off 7:45 pm.        08:30 23/03/2007

UniBond League Cup Final Date:

As forum dwellers will know, the final of the ULCC will be played on Tuesday April 17th. The scheduled league game against Matlock on that date will now happen on Wednesday March 28th. Matlock entertain Frickley the night before, we of course, are at home to Grantham.

And the venue is........Altrincham FC.                                    15:00 22/03/2007

Next Up - AFC Telford!

We have three Supporters' Coaches running to Telford on Saturday; departing from Highbury at 10:15am. At noon today, there were only a handful of seats remaining so, if you've just realised that you're missing the party, then phone 01253 770702 now as, once these are sold, that's it!

At the New Bucks Head Stadium, rival fans will be segregated and we have been allocated to the Frank Nagington Stand, which means entering through turnstiles I and J. The 'Nag' is behind the goal and, the news that you have all been waiting for, there is a snack bar in the enclosure, but it does not serve alcohol. Enjoy the game!                                    12:00 21/03/2007

UniBond League Cup Final:

Matlock Town finally squeezed past Woodley Sports 7-6 on penalties, after drawing 3-3 at the end of extra time, to join us in the final. With both finalists suffering from fixture congestion, be assured that the final will not be a two leg affair! The date and neutral venue to be agreed shortly.       07:30 21/03/2007

Leek Town 1 Fleetwood Town 2

An early goal from a Jez Fitzgerald free kick put FTFC in the driving seat until a defensive error gave Leek some hope. Never say die, though, we weren't going to settle for a draw - even if it needed an 87th minute own goal to win it! A very valuable three points that keeps the dream alive.......
Report here.                                                                                                                       22:00 20/03/2007

It's Game On:

The Leek pitch is judged playable and so it's game on! See you there.
                                                                                                                                                      14:30 20/03/2007

Leek Pitch Inspection:

Leek is currently under snow and so there will be a pitch inspection at 2:30pm tomorrow. Details will be posted here as soon as we have them.

But First - It's Leek Town:

Tomorrow's visit to Leek Town will be a tough encounter as the 'Last Six Games' clip shows below. After bumping along at the bottom of the league for much of the season, Leek have managed to grind out a few results in the last month or so but, as they still need a few wins to keep them clear of relegation, we'll need to match Saturday's second half endeavors to take the points.

Fleetwood Town 3  Whitby Town 1:

Fleetwood recovered from being a goal down inside two minutes, but didn't sparkle until the after a half-time substitution brought Phil Denney into the fray. His excellent finish of a Phil Charnock pass awakened the team and the fans, and saw Andy Bell and Jez Fitzgerald adding to the tally as the Whitby back line buckled under pressure. Report later.

Team: Hurst, Robinson, Pryers, Gray, Mercer, Charnock, Brown, Milligan, Bell (Saunders), Moore (Denney), Fitzgerald Sub: Haddow        08:00 18/03/2007

Last chance for Telford tickets

Club officials have to decide on Monday how many coaches need to be booked for the trip to Telford. All supporters are strongly recommended to purchase a ticket at the Whitby game for the trip to Telford or risk possible disappointment. Tickets are only £8, coaches leave at 10.15am and will have toilets and television  on board.

Stalemate at Whitby

Honours were shared at Whitby as Fleetwood played out a goal less draw on the East coast.

Sean Gray nearly snatched all 3 points for the cods in injury time, only to be denied by the Whitby keeper.

Fleetwood Through To Final

Fleetwood progressed to the final of the Unibond Cup thanks to a Phil Denney Strike on 14 minutes.

Mickey Saunders could have increased town’s lead on a couple of occasions only to be thwarted by Witton’s Goal Keeper.

Another Day - Another Cup Game:

Today brings our 14th cup game of the season as we welcome Witton Albion to Highbury. One of the form teams of the moment, just behind Ilkeston as it happens, they also had a quiet week when their meeting with Telford was rained off.

The pitch is in good condition this morning, so it's definitely 'game on' and, with the UniBond TV cameras in attendance, you'll even get the chance to see yourselves on the telly!

PS Don't forget to buy your Telford Coach tickets.                     07:30 10/03/2007

A Significant Day in the History of Fleetwood Town:

FTFC have just announced that the Football Section of Fleetwood Gym CYP will be joining with the Club, at the end of this season, creating the Fleetwood Town Football Academy.
This is a huge step forward which recognises the role which the club can play in the community and the development of its young people.

You can read the press release here and full details will be available at this evening's Fans Forum - 7:30 pm in the Social Club.

Coaches for Telford:

The club will be running Supporters' Coaches to the Telford game on Saturday March 24th, departing at 10:15am, fare £8.

How many coaches? That decision will be based entirely upon the number of tickets sold through the Club Shop by the end of the Whitby game on March 17th. Buy your tickets early and you won't be disappointed!

Stuart Barlow on loan to Bamber Bridge?

Stuart Barlow, having completed his loan spell at Skelmersdale, is looking to try his luck at neighbours Bamber Bridge. The loan 'paperwork' is being pushed through in the hope that Stuart can join them for this Saturday's visit to Ossett Albion.                                                                           14:00 7/03/2007

A Busy Week?

I should have known that headline was tempting fate! Having lost the first two events from our list, let's hope for more luck on Thursday evening with the Fans Forum event in the Social Club starting at 7:30pm sharp.

I'll see you there; I'll be the one with a flask and sandwiches.      08:30 7/03/2007

The Burscough Game is Off!

I give up! Burscough suffered a major power failure earlier today and it will not be possible to effect any repairs before this evening and so, regrettably, they have called off the game.                                                     16:30 6/03/2007

Sorry, but no Reserves!

Tomorrow's Reserve game has been postponed. The remedial work carried out on the pitch at the weekend needs a little more time to recover before the Cup game on Saturday so, Burscough here we come!          21:00 5/03/2007

Sportsman's Dinner:

Les Taylor has just released details of our next Sportsman's Dinner to be held in the Social Club on Monday May 21st. Full details here.     16:00 5/03/2007

A Busy Week!

Finally, a week with lots to keep us occupied.
Tuesday night sees the First Team back in Burscough, looking to redress last week's below par performance. If you can't make the trip, then FTFC Reserves (remember them!) play Bamber Bridge at Highbury.
Thursday Night is the 'Fans Forum': 7:30pm start in the Social Club. If you wish, hand in written questions to Les Taylor before the event.
And to complete your week, on Saturday we welcome high-flying Witton Albion in the League Cup Semi Final, with highlights on UniBond TV.                                                                                                                                                                 08:00 5/03/2007

New Reserves Fixture:

FTFC Reserves now have a game arranged at Highbury on Monday March 12th kick off 7:45pm. The opponents are Skelmersdale United Reserves in the Lancashire League Cup.                                                       08:00 5/03/2007

Ilkeston Town 2 Fleetwood Town 2

In the end, despite getting mauled by the Robins in the first half, we came away disappointed with a point. Ilkeston opened the scoring before Jamie Milligan equalised; scoring directly from a corner (below). Mickey Saunders then grabbed what seemed like the winner close to the end, only for Ilkeston to ram home a last gasp equaliser. Report.

Team: Hurst, Robinson, Pryers, Gray, Mercer, Pond, Brown, Milligan, Bell (Allen), Denney (Saunders), Fitzgerald.                                         20:00 3/03/2007

Ilkeston Coach Final Update:

We now have over 30 confirmed reservations for Saturday's visit to Ilkeston so the executive coach, with DVD and Loo, has been booked!

There are still some seats available, however, so if you wish to travel to Ilkeston in style, the only way to guarantee your seat is, as usual, by email here, or phone on 01253 770702. The coach leave Highbury at 10:45am.                                                                                                                                                      18:00 1//03/2007
