Fantastic
signing - Stuart Barlow - Striker
Fleetwood
Town are delighted to announce the signing of former Everton forward, Stuart
Barlow.
The veteran front-man enjoyed a successful spell with the Goodison Park outfit
from 1990 to 1995, appearing in the famous blue shirt on 88 occasions and
scoring 13 goals.
After a loan
spell with Rotherham, Stuart joined Oldham Athletic for a fee of £350,000. In a
3 year stay with the Latics, Barlow scored 31 league goals in 93 outings.
Barlow
departed Boundary Park in March 1998 when the other Latics, Wigan Athletic,
paid £45,000 for his services in a bid to boost their promotion push which
ended with a Play Off Semi Final defeat to Manchester City.
Following
the most prolific spell of his career, 52 goals in 107 appearances, Stuart was
on the move again in July 2000 when he moved back to his native Merseyside to
join Tranmere Rovers.
After
scoring 27 goals in 115 games for the Prenton Park club, Barlow joined
Stockport County before the start of season 2003/2004.
During his
tenure at Edgeley Park, Barlow added a further 16 goals to his career tally.
As recently
as last season, Barlow was still plying his trade in the Nationwide League with
Bury, for whom he scored 5 goals in just 15 appearances.
In January,
and with his 38th birthday just 6 months away, Barlow finally ended his long
and distinguished league career when he joined Morecambe [5 goals in 16
matches] as he helped them reach the Conference Play offs.
Barlow is
yet another sensational signing for Fleetwood Town. His goal-scoring prowess is
seen as another piece in the jigsaw for the Highbury Avenue club who are
seeking their 3rd promotion in consecutive seasons.
Chairman
Andy Pilley hailed the signing of Barlow stating that “this is another clear
sign of Fleetwood’s ambitious intent and a real feather in our cap”. Pilley
continued: “Stuart is an experienced player who has enjoyed a successful career
at the top levels of the game and we see him as another important recruit to an
already strong squad.”
Everyone
connected with Fleetwood Town wishes to offer Stuart Barlow a warm welcome to
the club.

Contract for top boss
Fleetwood
Town have rewarded their long-serving manager, Tony Greenwood, with a one year
rolling contract.
Greenwood arrived at Highbury during season 2002-2003.
With the club languishing in mid table of the North West Counties Division 1,
Greenwood masterminded a revolution which saw Town earn 3rd place in his first
full season in charge, a placing which would have seen the club promoted had
they not failed their ground grading. This achievement was all the more
impressive considering the turmoil that had taken place behind the scenes when
owner Mick Hoyle departed mid-season to be replaced by current chairman, Andy
Pilley.
The following season, 2004-05, saw Town finally clinch
promotion to the UniBond League when they won the North West Counties Division
One title.
Consolidation is a swear word as far as Pilley and
Greenwood are concerned and, typically, Fleetwood’s inaugural season in the
UniBond League First Division ended with them earning a second successive
promotion as runners up after a dramatic 5-1 victory at home to Brigg Town on a
never to be forgotten day.
Greenwood is a living legend as far as the `Cod Army’ is
concerned and the news that he has further committed his future to the club is
a massive boost as Fleetwood Town continue preparations for life in the Unibond
League Premier Division.
Fleetwood

Droylsden

Sanderson, Electrical Retailers, on Lord Street, has agreed to become Town’s
very first rear of shirt sponsor.
General
Manager, Les Taylor, said: Mike approached me during our recent Sponsors
Evening and asked if this sponsorship was still available. It is wonderful to
see that local companies like Mike’s are backing us so well. It is a
substantial amount of money for which we are extremely grateful.

1 August 2006. The ground truly starts to look more like a football ground with
