Defender returns to the Fylde Coast to link up with Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Town are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Stephen Crainey on a one-year deal.

The Scottish international, who was at Wigan Athletic last season, brings a wealth of experience to Highbury, having played the majority of his career in the top two flights of English football.

Crainey experienced a double dose at Wembley with the Latics during the 2013/14 campaign, playing in the Community Shield against Manchester United and the FA Cup semi-final against holders Arsenal.

The 33-year old also boasts a Championship promotion on his CV, having helped neighbours Blackpool to the Premier League in 2010.

Manager Graham Alexander said: "We have had our eye on trying to improve the squad. Every manager is the same and we thought we needed to bring in some more added quality and experience.

“Stephen Crainey certainly provides that, he has played at the top level and he is still hungry for success. He is chomping at the bit and he can’t wait to get started.”

We will hear from the manager in full about the deal following the Partick friendly plus we will hear from the man himself, Stephen Crainey.
