Vamara Sanogo impresses whilst on trial at the tail end of last season

Fleetwood Town have made their third signing of the summer with the capture of French striker Vamara Sanogo.

The 20-year-old striker, who has spent time at France Ligue 1 side FC Metz, was on trial with the Cod Army at the back end of last season, and played in four development matches.

Speaking about his new recruit in depth, manager Graham Alexander said: “He did really well towards the tail end of last season when he was on trial. He had already been on trial at a couple of other clubs at a higher level.

“He is a young striker who is a bit unknown, but he is very powerful, very quick and direct who wants to get involved with people and cause defences problems.

“We liked what we saw and we offered him a contract towards the end of the season, and we got him signed up. He’s gone back to France for the summer, but he is someone with a lot of potential and we are happy he will be joining the Club.

Talking about what Vamara will bring to the Fleetwood Town frontline, the manager continued: “He is powerful, quick and direct. He wants to play on the shoulder of defenders and get in behind.

“Vamara can hold the ball up well, he can play as a lone striker on in a two and he is left footed. We could probably play him out wide or in a three so he gives the team options.

“He has potential, we’re not putting great expectations on him right from the beginning, but he is someone who I feel will be in the first-team squad sooner rather than later.

“We’re quite excited about him, as he is pretty unknown, but he’s showed up well in the short period he had with us. He’ll come back in pre-season ready to go.”
