Taylor all set for this weekend's first leg

Charlie Taylor says he will be aiming to prove a few people wrong when Fleetwood Town go head-to-head with his hometown club York City in the play-off semi-finals.

The 20-year-old Leeds United loanee heralds from the North Yorkshire city and after returning to the starting line-up in Town’s 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield last weekend, the full back is hoping to line-up against a club that many of his friends and family grew up supporting.

The first leg takes place at York’s Bootham Crescent on Saturday and Taylor admits that he ‘can’t wait’ to get his first taste of the nail biting play-off experience.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Taylor said: “It will be a good game. It looks like there will be a big crowd, they are on a great run and we’ve done well recently so it has all the potential to be a good game.

“This will be my first experience of the play-offs, I have never experienced them before, but a few of the lads have and I am really looking forward to it.

“It puts a bit of an added incentive on it (playing against your hometown club). I want to win and prove a few people wrong back home, but it’s a play-off semi-final so it’s going to be a great occasion anyway.

“We’ve had a few good results and I am sure we will take that confidence from winning into the play-offs and hopefully that will serve us well.

“It’s all about the game over two 90 minutes now and hopefully we can get the right result.

“I can’t wait now really, it should be a great atmosphere and a great game.”

After missing the second half of April with a twisted ankle injury, Taylor returned to the left back position and alongside Stephen Jordan in defence.

Jordan has impressed in the full back position in Taylor’s absence, as has Liam Hogan for the injured Conor McLaughlin and Taylor admits there is a ‘fight’ on for the starting spot on Saturday.

“I hadn’t trained much before so it was good to get that match fitness back and that can only be a good think for these two games after getting 90 minutes under my belt.

“Stevie’s (Stephen Jordan) come and done brilliant for a few game and it is going to be a fight for that starting spot.

“Hoges (Liam Hogan) has done brilliantly as well and him and Conor will be fighting for that spot.”
