Boss on Tuesday night's task against Morecambe

Fleetwood Town manager Steven Pressley believes his team are in a good position to advance to the JPT Northern Area Final if they perform to their maximum levels but if not, they are in trouble!

The Cod Army face neighbours Morecambe at Highbury Stadium on Tuesday night, 7.45pm kick-off, with the winners going on to meet Barnsley over two legs in the Northern Area Final.

With no game last weekend, Fleetwood have had over a week to prepare for the tie against Jim Bentley’s men, who are going well in League Two.

Speaking about training, Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and Morecambe, the boss said: “After our last match, we had a three day shut down because we work on a certain periodisation training where we work for six weeks at a very intense level and then we have a down week.

“Last week was our down week and it coincided perfectly with the free weekend. We have had a good week, we returned to training last Wednesday and we have gradually built up to the levels that we train at ahead of the game against Morecambe and we will be raring to go.

“This week has provided ourselves with the ideal opportunity to do what we wanted to do at the end of our six week cycle.

“We are definitely trying to go all the way in the JPT.  It is fair to say for teams like ourselves and Morecambe, this cup competition presents a real opportunity to go to Wembley.

“The FA Cup is a fantastic competition and so is the Capital One Cup, but realistically for teams in League One and Two, it is very difficult to reach the final.

“It will be a difficult match on Tuesday. Morecambe knocked us out of the JPT at Highbury last season and they have a handful of players with a link to Fleetwood in some way which always provides a spice.

“They will be a real threat. They are the second highest scorers in League Two and they have conceded the second highest amount of goals.

“They are a team when they play that are involved in many goals. It has got the makings of a very good game and the truth is, I believe that if we perform to our levels, we will win the game. If we don’t, we will be in trouble.”
