Town slipped to defeat in the West Midlands
Fleetwood Town’s youth team slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Walsall in the West Midlands on Saturday morning.Craig Madden’s men found themselves two down after a quarter of an hour, and never really got going against a strong Walsall side.
It was a disappointing day all round for the Club, as the first team also lost to the Saddlers at Highbury courtesy of Romaine Sawyers’ goal 10 minutes before the break.
After the game, Steve Carlin, academy manager, admitted that he was despondent with the way his players performed.
“The boys didn’t turn up. They started very, very slow and Walsall were a strong and physical side who liked to pass the ball around, and on their own home pitch did it quite effectively.
“A couple of the lads had okay games but I thought the whole squad were a little bit dazed by the performance of the Walsall players.”
The young Cod Army now have a big few weeks ahead of them before travelling to Premier League side Sunderland in the third round of the FA Youth Cup next month.
