Defender reflects on today's loss against the Saddlers

Stephen Crainey spoke to the Club’s media team after the 1-0 home defeat to Walsall and expressed the mood in the camp was utter disappointment.

The full-back was honest in his assessment of the Cod Army’s first home defeat in the league since February, but made the point of saying it was only a minor setback

“We can’t get too high when we win a game and you can’t get too low when you lose a game. You’ve got to have that happy medium and the lads are like that in this group and the manager is the same.

“We’ve just got to try and win every game and unfortunately today that never happened.”

The 33-year-old paid tribute to the visitors, but admitted Town just could not find their rhythm: “It was just one of those games. Especially first half we just couldn’t get going.

“Walsall had a really good first half and we couldn’t deal with them to be honest but second half we gave it a go and put them under a bit of pressure. In the end we may have been unlucky not to get a draw but now we will try to move on and look forward to Swindon away next week.”

He added: “First five or ten minutes we had a couple of opportunities and were unlucky not to get a goal but after that I thought Walsall dominated the ball and we struggled.

“It’s hard to pinpoint a finger on why that has happened. The manager has set us up and tells us what to do, but at the end of the day it is our responsibility once we get over that line.

“You need a bit of luck and we never got it today. Sometimes you need to go and earn that luck, but I don’t think we deserved it. As I say, disappointing and hopefully we can rectify it against Swindon.”

“Me and Conor like to get forward, that’s part of our game. There wasn’t much chance for us to get forward today.

“You’ve got to give Walsall a bit of credit for that, they set up their stall and countered what we did which is disappointing because no matter what they threw at us we should have countered that again.

“We want to get back on the training pitch and make sure we put things right next weekend."
