Fleetwood Town have signed midfielder Steven Schumacher from League 2 rivals Bury.

Fleetwood Town have signed midfielder Steven Schumacher from League 2 rivals Bury.

The 29-year-old captain was one of Bury’s stand-out players last term, scoring 10 goals in 44 outings. Schumacher's efforts, though, couldn't prevent the Shaker’s maintaining their two-year spell in League 1. Schumacher started his career with Everton and captained the England U19s during his time at Goddison. The midfielder then went on to make 200 Football League appearances with Crewe and Bradford and said his aspirations will be at Highbury. “The ambition of the club and where it sees itself in the future was a big attraction to me coming here. There is a lot of drive at Fleetwood and I want to bring my own influence to what happens on the pitch next season.” Town manager Graham Alexander said Schumacher can use the experience of over 300 Football League appearances to benefit his side’s push on League 2. “Steven has come in and will be a great addition to the squad. He has great experience of winning at this level and of promotion. He scored 10 goals from midfield last season and brings leadership qualities as well.” Schumacher signs on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
