The Cod Army were held to a goalless draw at Rodney Parade although they had chances to go on and win the match.

But Graham Alexander’s side still remain in the mix for promotion and, despite the manager being disappointed with the result, Roberts saw the positives in taking a point away from home.

“The lads really dug in and were really organised,” said Roberts. “We executed the game plan and, on the day, could have come away with all three points. 

“You don’t know how important that point is going to be come the end of the season, though. 

“As a whole team, we were hurting after conceding four at home to Plymouth. You never want to go through that but the way we’ve responded, with two clean sheets and solid displays, is something we can build on now.”

Roberts had an early effort to give Town the lead in South Wales cleared off the goal line, while Antoni Sarcevic struck wide on the bobbly pitch.

And the Fleetwood captain pointed to the playing surface as a hindering factor for his side.

“With the conditions of the pitch, they’ve spun us around, won the toss and obviously wanted to kick a certain way in the second half because they know these conditions better than us,” added Roberts.

“It was difficult but the lads equipped themselves well. We could have sneaked it in the first half although we won’t get too down on that.”
