Defender becomes a world record holder at Fleetwood Town FC

In an era when records continue to be broken at Fleetwood Town Football Club, defender Nathan Pond ’s remarkable journey with the Cod Army has this week been officially recognised by the iconic Guinness World Records brand.

The Club’s longest serving player, who has won six promotions in ten seasons during his 11 year Highbury career, played in his seventh different division for the Club when he captained the team in our first ever League One game last weekend against Crewe Alexandra.

This achievement has now been officially recognised by Guinness as a world record under the title of ‘the most football (soccer) divisions played in for one club by an individual.’

It has been a sensational year for the Cod Army’s legendary number six, who capped off his testimonial season by winning promotion under the famous Wembley arch in the League Two Play-Off final against Burton Albion back in May.

The 29-year-old, affectionately known to everybody at Highbury as Pondy, has now played for Fleetwood in the following seven divisions:

North West Counties League First Division
Northern Premier League Division One
Northern Premier League Premier Division
Conference North
Conference Premier
Football League Two
Football League One

Nathan’s remarkable journey started back in March 2003 as a raw 18-year old in the North West Counties League under then manager Tony Greenwood. Chairman Andy Pilley’s arrival at Highbury a year later triggered an amazing journey for both the Club and Pondy which sees both playing this season in League One.

It was London-based Town supporter Pete Birkett who initially brought Pondy’s story to the attention of Guinness World Records and Pete will be meeting up with Nathan when he travels up to our home game against Chesterfield on Saturday 23rd August.
