Ticket news and line-up to follow

The Happy Mondays will be just one of the head-line bands who will appear at the inaugural Live Wyre Frack-Free Festival on Sunday 1st June.  The Salford-base Mondays, whose hits included Step On and Kinky Afro, committed to the June date when Mark Bez Berry visited the festival venue at Highbury Stadium this week.

“Can you believe it! The Cod Army better watch out!” Bez said in his usual upbeat manner. “We’re looking forward to the Frack Free Festival at Highbury Stadium.

“Hopefully we’ll have lots of celebrities coming along and we’ll have a great day out.”

Apart from the Mondays, the Alabama 3's have been named in the line-up.  With a blend of country, blues, and acid house the group achieved international recognition when their track "Woke Up This Morning" was used for The Sopranos opening credits.

“The Alabama 3’s and a few more well-known bands will be announced soon,” added Bez.

The event will be held at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium and club chairman Andy Pilley said supporters and local residents will be given priority ticket sales.

”We are very keen to ensure the local community have to opportunity to be at this event. So it is our intention to have a scheme whereby local people get priority for the event prior to tickets going on general sale.”

The stage will be positioned facing the Parkside Stand and the capacity has been set at 6,000 with the boarded pitch used by the standing audience. Seating will be available in the Parkside Stand.

”We are delighted The Happy Mondays have confirmed they will play at Highbury. We’re optimistic we can get some more really big names involved. I certainly can’t remember an event of this size happening in the north Fylde,” added Pilley.

Bez, well known for his anti-fracking stance said and the music festival will send an important message about the energy extraction technology.

Bez “It’s an anti-fracking gig to raise awareness of fracking and invite the community down.”

Ticket news – and details of more acts - will be released in the next few weeks on the club website and then on the festival’s own Internet presence.
